Exposure Compensation feature for BYN

angelo327

Question

I don't know what camera features the Nikon SDK offers but here's one that I'd like to see if possible.

Exposure Compensation

Accessed by pressing the -/+ button (located next to Shutter Release button) and rottting the Main Command Dial.

When using my Nikon D90 and D610 DSLR's with a telescope or any NON CPU lens the exposure compensation is the only way I can lighten or brighten image displayed during 'live view'.   Unfortunately I have to visit the camera and manually make the adjustment.  It would be GREAT! if this could be accomplished via the BYN Software.

What you are asking for to allow BYN to adjust the Exposure Compensation offset may not be possible because Nikon does not expose that capability for 3rd party developers to exploit.

So what you really want to do is adjust the brightness of LiveView frames totally from BYN.

That functionality should already exist. No other BYN users have said that this is not possible for them. Although it is more cumbersome than for Canon cameras, nobody else has said that it did not work for them. With all this said, I am not a Nikon owner, so cannot test it myself.

The typical BYN and BYE user only comes here to ask for help, not to provide help. Then when their issue is resolved we may never hear from them again. I do not recall that anyone has had an unresolved issue with adjusting brightness of LiveView frames.

Please tell us what you have tried that has not worked.

For example, did you pause LiveView, change the ISO and duration, then resume LiveView?

What settings did you try? For example, did you set duration to 1 second and vary the ISO from 100 to 1600?

Did you use BYN's Maximum Sensitivity setting?

When you adjust the ISO on the Frame & Focus screen, do you also see it change in the Camera Information Center panel?

It is possible that your camera models do not support this. In that case there is nothing that the O'Telescope developers can do to make it work.

Have you tried brightening and darkening LiveView frames on the camera when it is disconnected from the computer? If so, what ranges of duration and ISO did you try? If it won't work when operating the camera while using the buttons and menus on the camera, then there is likely nothing that BYN could do to work around that.
