Frame and Focus 5X not working

Kevinwalsh

Question

I have a D810a and a D5100. I mostly use them with a Win10 Beelink computer, but sometimes with a Samsung Win7 laptop.

I noticed that in ‘Frame and Focus’ mode, faint stars are much brighter and therefore more visible if I click on the 5X button. However, the 5X button hasn’t been working lately.
Can anyone suggest why? Is there a setting in BYN that I’ve changed? Or is there a setting in the camera(s) that I’ve changed? My attempts to get 5X working again have been fruitless.

Thanks.

Can you provide more information about your setup? Lens or telescope? Shooting mode in Manual? Does the log file reveal anything? Do both cameras behave the same? Do the 2 computers behave differently?

When you say that "the 5X button hasn't been working", what do you mean exactly? That the focus rectangle is not larger? That the stars are not brighter?

ÔÔoops. Stupid me.

A couple months ago I bought a Canon M200 (mirrorless) and also bought the premium edition of BYE to run it. I’d been using the M200 and getting used to it and BYE, and then switched back to my Nikons recently.

I looked in the user’s manual a while ago and read that the 5X feature is enabled in BYE, but is not available for Nikons, so clicking the 5X button doesn’t do anything. Duh.

Oh, well. Sorry I wasted your time.
