Connection Trouble

Upallnight

Question

I am a new BackyardNIKON user (1.0.2 Premium Edition) and could use some advice. I am using a Nikon D800 connected to a Dell laptop running Windows 8. The cable is 5 feet and it came with the D800. I was able to connect to my camera on the first attempt. I disconnected and reconnected several times to make sure things were working ok. I set the BYNIK plan to take 6 - 120 sec exposures (RAW + JPEG) to be downloaded to both camera card and PC. It took the first exposure, downloaded the image, and then the camera disconnected. I discovered that the battery was dead in my camera. I changed it, and attempted to reconnect with no luck. In spite of multiple tries I have not been able to establish communication with the camera and am at my wit's end. I've tried all the USB ports on the laptop and changed the plan to just take RAW to the camera card to reduce the amount of info load placed on the cable. I've turned off virus protection software as suggested as one remedy on this forum but no luck.

On a side note, in trying to solve this I notice in the FAQs the question, "Can I close the application while the queue still has active tasks?". A click on this only highlights the question - no answer is given.

Any suggestion to help me get connected again will be appreciated. Thanks.

HI Guy,

That was it!!!  The D800 has both a CF card and an SD card. I have the CF card designated as primary and the SD as overflow. Before posting my trouble I did read in the forum that deleting the images might help. The trouble is, I had locked images on both cards that did not delete. I just re-formated the cards and all is well. Thanks for all your help. I was about ready to pull out what little hair I have left.

You can close the application with items in the queue, it's just a warning.

Looks like the Nikon driver is stuck.

Remove the battery in your camera for at least 5 minutes and reboot your computer.  Your camera should reconnect after that.

Regards,
