proper buttons, different places, Suspend, Resume

Question

hello,

It occurred to me today that if you were a bit too ... clicky? or accidental did a double-click on the Suspend hypertext or Resume hypertext while in the middle of an imaging run, you might trigger the opposite action that you want.

Sometimes my computer is laggy and I click and wait and think, did it not take?

Then it occurred to be that a nice way (but it's a bit of extra work) would be to have two buttons, beside each other. One is dimmed while the other is active. If the buttons are in different spots, no such of clicking the other.

Blake

I got "clicky" and tried to trigger "the opposite action to what I wanted" but could not make it happen. Of course the opposite action is no action at all. By that I mean that when I was running a capture plan and did two quick clicks on Suspend, BYE took no action. The first click suspended and the second click did a result. This is as designed. This is as designed. The result was that the plan was not suspended.

I could not make BYE fail in this regard. When I suspended the plan with a single click on the Suspend button BYE immediately said "Suspend Pending" and the link's label immediately said "Resume". BYE never contradicted itself by having the link show Suspend when it was already suspended, or show Resume when it was running.

IMO Guylain is a master at U/I design for preserving precious screen real estate and the Suspend and Resume links always performed as designed and I always had immediate feedback to clicking on those links.

Finally, there may be other controls in the space where you propose to place the new link if he were to display both Suspend and Resume links in that part of the screen and there may other controls that could appear there when needed and appropriate but be hidden otherwise. Also don't forget that the U/I design has to accommodate a wide variety of screen resolutions and window sizes.
