Time log help

astrosmh

Question

When I use BYE to log an imaging session, the time associated  in the saved file name is correct and correlates to the local time of my PC.  Yet the time logged by my IE time/date stamp is shifted by 2 hours.

Example:

Test_Light_1s_1600iso_+33c_20150823-21h08m30s258ms         8/23/2015 7:12 PM CR2 File

Actual time of imaging was 21:09

How can I get them in sync?

Thanks

Stephen

Stephen,

Windows keeps 3 different times for each file. They are: 1) the time the file was created, 2) the time was last modified, 3) the time that the file was last accessed.

In your example, you are showing 3 times.

First your "actual" time of 21:09.  This agrees pretty well with the time in the file name "21h08m30s258ms".  This time was built by BYE from your local clock at the time the file was created. The time that is displayed by Windows in a directory listing, the 7:12 time is the time that the file was last modified. Those times may be legitimately different.

You can see the 3 times by looking at the file's properties (right-click on the directory entry and click Properties).  I suspect that the Created time will agree closely with the time that BYE put into the file name. This is close to the time when the file was downloaded from the camera. The Last Modified time may be later depending on the changes that BYE made to the file after it was created.

I hope this helps.
