Canon 60Da

StargazrVern

Question

Using BYO Canon version 3.2.2, when I connect the camera to the program, it reads at the top 'BackyardEOS 3.2.2 - Premium Edition (60D). Also above 'Veiw log history...' it shows the time and 60D CONNECTED.

I know its not a big deal, just thought the program would recognize this camera. Anyone experience the same thing?

Thank you, StargazrVern

There are no Software Differences in the 60D/60Da which can be used to tell them apart.  BYE is successfully connecting, and therefore should be capable of performing all its actions.

The difference - the Infrared Filter that allows greater H-alpha capture - will only show up in the quality of Image Captured.

Good Luck with your camera - the 60Da was rather rare.  But the 60D family was quite good for AP Imaging.

As a bonus, the 60D/60Da has the "special 640x480 Video Capture Mode" which captures true 1:1 Pixels for best Planetary Video Imaging.  This mode isn't supported directly in BYE (as it wasn't in the Canon SDK).  You must manually select the 640x480 Video Mode, and operate the Camera without BYE for this "Hidden Feature".  But, you get 640x480 capture at 30fps - better than almost any other Canon DSLR ever released!!

I will try to remember the 'Infrared Filter'

Perhaps you misunderstood - the main "Improvement" of the 60Da over the original 60D is the Factory-Modified InfraRed Filter.

There is no need to Install/Add/Replace any Filter before using your 60Da.  In fact, doing so will likely degrade its performance.

Just attach your 60Da to the Scope, get a Good Focus, pick a Target that has some amount of Ha Nebulosity, and start Shooting...
