PierreN

Question

Hi

Anybody has experience with this configuration ? I guess the same could be asked for most DSLRs....

Just want to make sure I wont run into trouble while imaging out there

TIA

Pierre

PS: One thing I would like to know is if I need a USB 3.0 to USB 2.0 adapter

Pierre,

If any issue exists it should not be BYE since BYE uses the Canon SDK to communicate with the camera.  So the question is "does the T3i communicated with the PC with USB 3.0.

USB 3.0 is supposed to be backward compatible with USB 2.0, but sometimes plugging a USB 2.0 cable into a USB 3.0 jack on the PC does not work as expected.  The issue is that the USB 2.0 cable does not mate all the signals exactly correct.  I believe that people who had this issue purchased a powered USB hub that provides USB 2.0 jacks for multiple devices, but uses USB 3.0 between the hub and the PC.

I have two canon t3is. One of my two rigs uses an usb 3.0 active usb cable. No particular issues for that setup vs. the other one with active usb 2.0 cable. I've used the 3.0 cable with one laptop that has 3.0 and one that doesn't. Again, no issues to report.

That active cable is the only part that is 3.0. Camera, cable from camera to hub, and the hub itself, is 2.0.

I like this hub:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004ESS4NE?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00

Because it's made of metal and has a 12v supply. They have models with fewer ports as well.

Before that, I bought this:

and it is still in use on my 2nd rig (grab and go ish). I power it via this dc to dv converter, as it has a 5v supply:

by the way, a similar dc to dc converter powers the t3i:
