The BYN developers are at the mercy of Nikon to release an updated copy of their software API that supports the Z9. Then they have to incorporate the updated SDK into a new release of BYN, test it with the new cameras, release it as a beta and then a full release.

As a user of an older Canon camera I do not know how long the process for supporting a new Nikon takes. I know that it seems to be pretty simple to build a new release of BYN to incorporate a new SDK.  Then they may ask Z9 owners to help them test BYN with that model. For O'Telescope developers to rent a Z9 from a local shop can take months, if BYN has any issues with fully supporting the new model.
