Magnification

Question

Anyone

I have been wondering how to figure the magnification of my scope with my camera attached for prime focus.

I know how to figure the magnification with a eyepiece, but I need focal length of the eyepiece to figure the magnification.

so in this scenario I would need the focal length of the camera. where do I get this figure.

or is there a different formula for doing this? At public star parties one of the first questions asked is what is the magnification you are using. just like to provide a truthful answer.

Jim

The method I use it seems to work quite well is to use the diagonal measurement of the camera sensor divided into the focal length of the telescope. For my Canon 60 DA camera, I used 26 mm
