ZWO Optical: Back-illuminated CMOS Image Sensor with 14bit ADC. ASI178MM has a 1/1.8? and 6.4M pixels sensor IMX178 with SONY STARVIS and Exmor R Technology. Extremely low read noise(2.2 – 1.4e) , high sensitivity and 14bit ADC make it very suitable for astronomy and microscopy high resolution photograph. Come with a 2.5mm all sky lens which can provide a nearly 170° view of the sky.
In planetary mode, its acquisition speed reaches the rate of 60 images / second at the resolution of 3096 x 2080 pixels. This acquisition speed makes it possible to "freeze" the turbulence in planetary imaging and thus to obtain a final image provided with numerous details. Its large field makes it possible to bring on the sensor, the satellites of the giant planets in a single shot.
This acquisition speed can be pushed to 239 fps when used in lower resolution mode (320 x 240 pixels).
For autoguiding, the camera is equipped with a standard ST4 port, adaptable to a very large number of commercial frames. Used for example with the free software PHD2 Guiding, this one proves to be very effective, with a final result composed mostly of images perfectly guided. Autoguiding can be performed with an accuracy to the tenth of a pixel. This asset makes it possible to use a relatively short focal length guide instrument in relation to the imaging instrument. Such precision requires meticulous parameterization of the PHD2 Guiding software. The camera also works with the free software MetaGuide.
The ASI120MC has a female M42-type input thread, but a mechanical M42 converter to the 31.75 mm and 50.8 mm male runners is supplied with the camera for use in standard telescope eye holders And eyeglasses from the market.
It comes with an All-Sky Fish-Eye lens, 2.5 mm focal length, which provides a field of 170 °, suitable for photography and meteor monitoring.
A 2m long USB cable and a ST4 autopilot cord (also 2m) are also part of the package.
