Baader: Baader AstroSolar® ECO-size Safety Film 5.0 OD, size 140x155mm

    • AstroSolar® ECO-size Safety Film 5.0 for solar observation and photography at high magnification
      Size: ca. 140 x 155 mm, incl. DIY-instructions and DIY cutting-template – telescope quality – Optical Density (OD) = 5.0
Safe for visual solar observation (with additional optics) and imaging
This highest precision film consistently produces strehl ratios of 94 to 96 percent at interferometric tests – thus it performs optically like a Fluorite Triplet Lens by Carl Zeiss or Astro Physics
For more than 25 years on the market, the only film-material made to not deteriorate the optical wavefront, it does allow to attain high magnification with any long-range optics without reducing sharpness or contrast of the solar surface.
The film is from the same material as our proven AstroSolar® Safety Filme 5.0 in A4-size, due to high demand now availble in a smaller size at an economical price, suitable as solar filter for small telescopes, finders, binoculars, spotting scopes and camera lenses

Baader: AstroSolar Safety Film Visual, Maximum Size 117x117cm (46"x46") ND=5

    • Baader Planetarium AstroSolar Safety Film is thoroughly processed and tested for the utmost safety and quality in observation of the Sun
    • Baader's AstroSolar Safety Film is available at a fraction of the cost of the competitions
    • This product is the large size sheet, at 117 cm x 117 cm
    • Views of granulation and faculae are particularly enhanced through the use of Baader's AstroSolar Safety Film
    • Safe for viewing the Sun, when applied correctly to your scope

Baader Planetarium's Astro Solar Film makes viewing the Sun safe and fun. The safety film projects white light views of the Sun that are unparalled to any other solar filters or material out there. Portraying fine solar detail, Baader's Astro Solar Film display penumbral detail, solar granulation, and lighter colored faculae. The film is set against a dark background, free of haze and scatter. Great performance at a great price!

Baader AstroSolar Visual Safety Film Size 117 x 117 cm presents the Sun in it's real color which is neutral white. The competition provides films and glass filters that produce a blurry bluish or reddish/orange/yellow solar image which in turn cuts part of the spectrum. With an orange Sun, it is very hard to see faculae regions which are visible predominantly in the blue wing of the spectrum. Because of AstroSolar's neutral color balance, this allows the use of various color (or interference) filters that allow observers to focus on particular spectral passbands for investigations or different layers within the solar "atmosphere".

In solar observation, eye safety is critical! Baader's AstroSolar is essentially free from pinholes because of the coating on both sides so that the chances of two pinholes overlapping each other is extremely small. While pinholes do appear the ratio is 1 out of 10,000 only, in optical density 2.5! All coatings are inspected continually for consistency and for eye safety. With Baader AstroSolar Visual Safety Film Size 117 x 117 cm, enthusiasts will enjoy the Sun's hidden grandeur at a fraction of the cost, but experiencing high quality performance in every use.

Baader: D-ERF Energy Rejection Filter 110mm, with IR-Cut dielectric coating

    • D-ERF: Dielectric Energy Reflection Filter 110 mm (8,10 mm thick / Ø 109,9 mm ± 0,05 mm))
    • Pre-filter to reduce heat during H-alpha observation with SolarSpectrum Filters
    • Plane parrallel plate (without filter cell) with IR-Cut dielectric coating
    • non-ageing sealed coating edges
    • Our 43-layer dielectric DWDM-coating delivers a COOL-beam of pure red light, with a HBW of 45 nm! The glass substrate in this case is no longer any kind of soft and streaky colored absorption glass, but clear BK7 of the highest homogeneity, fine-optically polished to the quality grade of the objective-lens surfaces, and with all the reflection performance coatings on one side. This reflects all the unwanted spectrum from 280 nm up to 1500 nm, while leaving open just that 45nm-wide spectral window around H-alpha. It is hellishly difficult to design such a performance coating, as well as the counterside anti-reflection multicoating, in such a way that no coating-induced stress builds up inside the glass substrate. If these coatings systems on either side of the plate are not done exactly right, to cancel out the stresses induced by the coating layers, the plane-parallel surfaces may easily be distorted, meaning the 1/10 wave flat plate deforms into an irregular curved substrate that acts as a (bad) lens. Our D-ERF filter-layers are designed with the utmost care, applied with the world‘s most advanced optical coating machines, and the final filters are all inspected and passed in autocollimation on our Carl Zeiss optical bench.
    • This level of care retains the full-aperture resolving power of the telescope lens while dramatically reducing the thermal energy that goes through the telescope to the Solar Spectrum filter. This not only is the main reason for a dramatic reduction of heat stress within the telescope, but also greatly reduces the thermally-induced seeing effects as well.

      IMPORTANT NOTE:

Baader D-ERF Energy Rejection filters are intended for use only as a Pre-Filter for Solar Spectrum H-Alpha filters. The D-ERF filter must always be present and mounted ahead of the telescope objective. The filter should be oriented with the primary coated face towards the sun (an arrow mark on the rim of the filter points toward this side). The D-ERF filter must be used together with the Solar Spectrum H-Alpha filter. Irreparable eye damage will result if the D-ERF is used by itself for visual observation

Baader: Baader AstroSolar Sun Eclipse Glasses

Baader AstroSolar solar eclipse observing glasses are made using the highly regarded Baader AstroSolar safety film. This foil is CE-tested and reduces the intensity of sunlight by 99.999%.

    Baader AstroSolar™ film

With AstroSolar™ the Sun appears in its real colour - neutral white. Other films and most glass filters produce a blurry bluish or reddish Solar image, thereby cutting part of the spectrum. Especially with an orange sun, it is very hard to see faculae regions which are visible predominantly in the blue wing of the spectrum.

Due to its neutral colour balance, AstroSolar enables the use of various colour (or interference) filters which allows the observer to concentrate on certain spectral passbands for investigations of different layers within the solar 'atmosphere'.

    Eye safety

AstroSolar™ is essentially free from pinholes, since - other than with even the most expensive glass filters - it is coated on both sides, so that the chance of two pinholes overlapping each other is extremely faint. Pinholes do appear, but to 1 out of 10000 only in optical density 2.5! Baader AstroSolar™ safety film has been approved for eye safety by the National Bureau of Standards in Germany, the PTB. Unlike any other Solar Filter on the market, AstroSolar™ is CE-tested according to EG-Norm 89/686 and EN 169/92 (notified body 0196). All processes connected to this product have been thoroughly tested. Coatings are inspected constantly for consistency to ensure your eye safety!

Important Never view the Sun without a suitable Solar Filter!  Solar observing is dangerous and can be hazardous to eyesight. Safety is everyone’s responsibility - please read the safety notes supplied with the product carefully.
