  2. Explore Scientific: The Explore Scientific N208CF Newtonian - Astrograph Edition offers large aperture and super-wide field at f3.9. Field tested and updated by astrophotographers, this 208mm f/3.9 Newtonian produces tight, round stars with the recommended HR Variable Coma Corrector. This telescope assembly with its Carbon Fiber tube has very low expansion characteristics to hold its focus position, is also very lightweight, and a lightweight telescope performs better on any mount that it is placed on.

The very fast f-ratio f/3.9 Parabolic Newtonian with Borosilicate Secondary and Low Expansion H-PZ33 Primary Mirror optics provides a focal length of 812mm. The already very bright visual images is further enhanced with 97% reflectivity EMD coatings. No-tool 3-point push-pull collimatable secondary holder adjustments and no tool adjustments for the "clipless" primary mirror holder cell have locks to keep optics aligned for the best images.

Precise focusing is achieved with the Two Speed 2-inch Rack & Pinion Focuser with 50mm Extension Tube, and 1.25-inch Adapter.

Other features include a finder scope base to mount an optional correct image Explore Scientific 8x50 Illuminated Polar Right Angle Finder Scope or the correct image Explore Scientific 8x50 Straight Through Illuminated Viewfinder.

The Explore Scientific N208CF Newtonian is handled and supported by metal Cradle Rings with a contoured metal Handle/Grip that is slotted to allow a 1/4x20 attachment bolt for piggyback attachment of a DSLR. The 45mm Wide, 203mm Long Dovetail Plate (Vixen-style) mounts to fit a huge range of mounts from Explore Scientific and other brands. This dovetail plate has adjustment bolts with locks to adjust for precision cone angle adjustments.

The package includes a padded, top-loading Soft Carrying Case to protect the optical tube assembly while transporting the instrument to your backyard or your favorite dark sky site for an imaging run or deep sky visual observations.

  3. Explore Scientific: No telescope type has changed the hobby quite as much as the Dobsonian. Before the introduction of the Dobsonian by John Dobson, the vast majority of amateur telescopes consisted of small telescopes with primitive mechanics – barely enough to see the polar caps of Mars or the rings of Saturn. Larger telescopes, such as the Schmidt-Cassegrain were reserved for the wealthy. The ingenious combination of simple yet effective mechanisms with the greatest possible opening gives the Dobsonian telescope a unique triumphant march around the world. Nowhere do you get as much light for your money like a good Dobson. Disassembly of the scope without tools ensures a trouble-free transport of this great scope even in small cars. The entire structure has been optimized for maximum stiffness with minimal weight. The combination of high altitude bearings with optimized aluminum structures allows fine adjustment flows at high magnifications.

The EXPLORE SCIENTIFIC DOB 10″ TUBE TRUSS is the ideal workhorse for the deep sky observers. A 254mm mirror collects more than 1,500 times as much light as the naked eye. Details on planets and deep sky objects will be visible even for inexperienced observers. Bright star clusters are resolved to the core, and the sight of the terminator on the moon is an unforgettable experience.

Includes 2″ focuser with helical gearing and 10:1 reduction; LED Red Dot Finder, collimation assist tool; soft light baffle and two radial main mirror fan for fast temperature equilibrium.

  16. Explore Scientific: The 102mm Air-Spaced Doublet AR Series is very portable, a real grab-and-go instrument! Like its two larger brothers, the AR127, and the AR152, these are classic air-spaced, crown-and-flint, doublet achromatic refractors with superior-class optical figure, in a short (f/6.5) focal length design. These optics are an extreme value, produce stunning images of deep sky objects, double stars, planets, and the moon that are a small fraction of the price of comparable aperture apochromat refractors. Finally one can own a diffraction-limited high quality refractor for a relatively modest investment. Designed to handle the rigors of public star parties and educational outreach, the Explore Scientific AR Series has standard hardware which includes a precision two-speed focuser, a 99% Reflective 2-inch Diagonal Mirror, and an 8×50 Finder Scope.

You can be confident that the quality and construction of these telescopes will allow heavy use for many years and are backed with the Explore STAR Transferrable Extended Life of the Product Warranty. The optics in their collimatable lens cell are fully multi-coated to eliminate light scatter and maintain image contrast. Although you may never need to adjust optical alignment, the AR Series allows for collimating the lens set should the telescope ever require it. Contrast is further enhanced with multiple baffles that mask and deflect unwanted stray light. The Explore Scientific Air-Spaced Doublet AR Series telescopes include a precision 2-inch two-speed focuser as standard equipment. The eyepiece holder uses a compression ring to prevent the eyepiece or camera barrel from scoring. On those prestine nights of steady seeing, Saturn’s Rings can forever affect the hearts and minds of almost anyone who lays eyes on them. It’s nights like these that astronomers like to set up their refractors and push the magnification to the limits, not only to see the magnificence of the planet at greater scale but to really test the optical and mechanical quality of the telescope. Many telescopes are only supplied with a standard single-speed focuser, you will find that a tiny nudge will throw out focus and turn your night into one of frustration.

The Universal Adjustable Mounting Plate of the AR 102 fits on many popular equatorial and Altaz mounts, including mounts supplied by Explore Scientific, Celestron, Vixen, and others. Instead of using a cast metal part, Explore Scientific’s Universal Mounting Plate is made from extruded aluminum for added strength, it is afterall what secures your telescope to the mount. Adjustment screws and locking bolts are also included to allow adjustments to position the angle of the telescope when it is placed on its mount, an important feature when using an equatorial mount. The Two-Inch Dielectric Diagonal includes a 1.25″ eyepiece holder adapter and dust covers to protect the mirror. The purpose of a diagonal is to securely hold your eyepiece and to give you a comfortable viewing angle. Provided as standard equipment, Explore Scientific’s Two Inch Dielectric Diagonal incorporates a light-weight, one-piece diagonal body that securely cradles the precision polished diagonal flat mirror, insuring precision alignment. Ultra-high reflective coatings (99% reflective) composed of multiple thin layers of dielectric material delivers maximum light output. Both 2″ and 1.25″ eyepiece holders use compression rings instead of a simple set-screw to more securely hold your valued eyepiece (or imaging device) and to minimize scoring of eyepiece barrels. You can thread standard 48mm filters into the barrel. The purpose of a diagonal is to securely hold your eyepiece and to give you a comfortable viewing angle. The Explore Scientific 8×50 Finder Scope provides a true field of view of 6°. 23. Explore Scientific: All Explore focusers are 2", and come with 1.25" compression ring eyepiece adapters. The adapter, or your 2" eyepiece or barreled accessory, locks securely into place with three set screws so everything stays put. All of these focusers have 10:1 micro-focusing knobs as well as a rough focus knob. 10:1 means that you would have to rotate the microfocusing knob ten times to get the same focus movement with just one turn, or rotation, of the larger knob. The focus knobs themselves are large and knurled, so that you can grip them easily, even when your hands are cold or you are wearing gloves. A tension adjustment feature is included on all focusers. The ability to lock and/or adjust the tension on the drawtube is a nice characteristic, and you'll appreciate it when you increase or decrease the weight of eyepieces, cameras, or other accessories.
