Frame & Focus exposure problem on 7D

johnrenaud

Question

I banged my head on this for a good two days before I stumbled on the solution so I wanted to leave a breadcrumb for others who might run into this.

I have a 6D and a 7D. In Frame & Focus mode on the 6D, changing shutter speed/ISO would cause the on-screen liveview exposure to update immediately. On the 7D, however, the on-screen liveview wouldn't reflect the exposure changes unless I had the camera in movie mode (which chews up battery and heats up the sensor). It turns out that there is a setting on the 7D called Liveview Exposure Simulation that MUST be enabled for the on-screen liveview exposure to be updated immediately.

I probably just suck at searching but I couldn't find this information anywhere in the forums here and just happened to stumble on it indirectly from another site.

That said, BYEOS is an extremely useful and polished tool, well worth the purchase price. Kudos Guylain! :-)

Cheers,

John

John,

Not all cameras have the Exposure Simulation setting, but your issue has bitten several users and there have been numerous posts, as recently as a couple of weeks ago.

Here are some of the threads:

You can find more threads by searching the forum for "Exposure Simulation".

Agreed Rick - if I had known that the problem was caused by the exposure simulation setting, I would have been able to search for it directly by searching the forum for "Exposure Simulation". Oh wait, if I had known that I needed to enable exposure simulation (assuming I even knew there was such a setting, having never used liveview on any EOS body before installing BYEOS), then I wouldn't have had to search for anything. :-D

It's all good. There doesn't seem to be a (at least recent) thread that deals with F&F exposure *specifically*, so perhaps this thread can help somebody in the future.
