If it's any help, I'm using an older HP Pavilion DV7 4280 17" laptop and have been extremely pleased with it in the field.

I did refurbish it a bit when I bought it (dumped Win Vista for Win 7 Pro SP1 64bit and boosted RAM to 8G).  Other than that the original specs still apply:  Intel Core i5 CPU (2.67GHz), 1TB hard drive,

Blu-ray disk drive, (3) USB 2.0, (1) HDMI, and VGA & Ethernet ports, plus another external monitor port.  Bluetooth capable (although I've never used that feature), 3.5 hour battery (2.5 is more realistic under heavy use).  Typically, in my backyard, I use AC adaptors for the laptop, my scope, and my Canon T2i.  No worries over batteries.

Like any older and large lappy it's a bit heavy but I'm totally spoiled by the 17" monitor when using BYE, Especially for drift alignment, and frame and focus.

Oh, almost forgot, spring for a cheapy wireless mouse.  So much more convenient than the touch pad "finger" control.  Best $20.00 you can spend on a laptop accessory.

(PS:  This system handles a processor and memory hog like Pixinsight with ease, even while running video turorials on using Pixinsight simultaneously.)

John,

Are you processing on the same laptop?  If you do your processing on a different PC then you may be OK choosing a less powerful laptop for equipment control and image capture.

I use the same laptop for both capture and processing.  It is an Asus 17" laptop with a quad core i7 processor (2.2GHz, I believe) and a 1TB Crucial SSD that is partitioned for both the C and D drives.

Thanx for the reply Rick.  I actually thought of that and will do most of my processing on a PC.  I did buy a laptop today, so we'll see how it works.

I think it will work ok.  I'll give a test run over the next couple of weeks by the real test will TSP in May.

Thanx again to all for the info and replies.
