Immediate error on initial startup

HI,

 

Have just downloaded BackyardEOS and initiated it with my 30-day trial key. The program opened and then instantly failed with attached error message.

Did you look at the error?

C:\Users\ChadW\Pictures\BackyardEOS folder does not exist

Can you confirm that folder does exist? If it does not, create it and see if it resolves the issue.

The folder did not exist, so I added it, and also had to add another sub-folder 'plans'. I then started the program again and attempted to connect the camera via the Connect button (Canon EOS Rp switched on and plugged in), but this also failed. I attach the log file.

The relevant error in the log file is

Could not find file 'C:\Users\Chadw\Pictures\BackyardTEMP\Cache'.

It would seem that your ID has insufficient privileges to allow the BYE installer to create the initial required folders.

I would create C:\Users\Chadw\Pictures\BackyardTEMP and then create BackgroundWorker, Cache, Download, and Logs folders beneath it. See if that works for you.

Many thanks for that. It seems to have solved the start-up problem.

Since all of those folders were not created automatically, I can confirm with 100% certainty that you have a Windows permission issue. The "MyPictures" folder is supposed to be a guaranteed folder that you should have access to.

Another possible culprit is your ant-virus is blocking the creation.

This is not a setup issue, this is a Windows permission issue at the root of in IMO.
