Unable to connect D700 on one computer, strange behavior

adamland

Question

I'm able to connect my D700 on one of my computers, but on the laptop I plan to use in the field it isn't working. When I click the Connect button the Connect, Preview, Dither, Daylight, and Settings buttons disable and "Attempting to connect camera..." is displayed in the log history. Half a second later the buttons re-enable and nothing else happens. Seems like the program enters an unexpected state because if I then try to open Settings there's an unhandled null deref exception. Stack trace & logs attached

Interesting, if I launch BYN elevated it does connect. I tried something like that already (XP SP3 compatibility mode which also launches elevated) and got the normal camera not found failure. On my other computer it is not necessary to run BYN elevated.

Since the camera and BYN are working on one computer at least you know your camera, cable,  and BYN are playing nice.

You have 2 things going on here.

1) the null exception error

2) the camera not connected.

For the first one it seems like a bad installation where some config files are missing.  Try installing again.

For the second one if you have to run BYN in elevated mode there is something in your Windows configuration that prevents the normal start up.  You need to find out what.  I also think that that same elevated privileges request may be at fault for the camera not connected, just a guess though.

Keep us posted,
