Image Overlay--Image not updating

Chris7

Question

Hi

When attempting to reframe the target using the overlay function, I almost always experience the situation at some point, where the image stops updating.

i.e. the latest image doesn't appear and I have to keep taking new ones in the hope it will finally update--very frustrating!

This has happened with all the versions I have used including the latest 3.1.

I have tried using preview and normal exposures with the same result.

Am I right in assuming this is a problem with my laptop, or has anyone else experienced this?

Was there any update to this problem? I've been experiencing this as well. Raw image for overlay, preview jpg. Doesn't update. Sometimes it does all of a sudden. I haven't nailed down a particular pattern or method of getting it to start updating again. Just does but then stops again as well for a bit.

Hi,

No updates.  It is very hard to troubleshoot when only a few have this issue with several thousand others do not.  You are not running out of memory per say but the memory allocated to load the image has be set (by .net) to a value that is too small to load the image.  This is typically due to an invalid image file format but I know in this case it is not... so it makes it that much more difficult to troubleshoot and find the root cause.

Thanks for the log file.  Here is the error.

2015-03-08 20:11:23,093 [Main] ERROR - Out of memory.
2015-03-08 20:11:23,093 [Main] ERROR -    at System.Drawing.Graphics.CheckErrorStatus(Int32 status)
at System.Drawing.Graphics.DrawImage(Image image, Rectangle destRect, Int32 srcX, Int32 srcY, Int32 srcWidth, Int32 srcHeight, GraphicsUnit srcUnit, ImageAttributes imageAttrs, DrawImageAbort callback, IntPtr callbackData)
at System.Drawing.Graphics.DrawImage(Image image, Rectangle destRect, Int32 srcX, Int32 srcY, Int32 srcWidth, Int32 srcHeight, GraphicsUnit srcUnit, ImageAttributes imageAttr)
   at BinaryRivers.Controls.ABase.PictureBoxPlus.DrawMaskImage()

The out of memory error indicates that .net was not able to reserve the right amount of memory to store the image :(

Was this with a jpg or raw image?

Hi Chris,

It's not memory issue oddly.  It's a memory address issue in .Net, the error message is just misleading.

Is the image that you open as an overlay a RAW image as well?

I noticed that you were taking preview images, those are JPG.  Do you know if the error occurs mostly once you've taken a preview image?

Regards,

Thanks Guylain, I was about to ask you what laptop/OS/spec to buy to replace my XP Dell, maybe I should still do that.

The image I select for the overlay is always a raw.

For the new imaging session, I have tried both preview & ordinary image (raw) but the problem was the same.

This is a long standing issue but the last imaging session was the first time I thought to try the normal image instead of preview. Unfortunately as I said, the problem seemed the same.

I can try again not using preview at all?

Chris
