While FITS is the common Standard File Format for Astronomical Image Manipulation and Storage, there aren't too many CR2-to-FITS conversion routines available out there.  That is not to say it cannot be done - PixInsight and ImagesPlus support such conversions internally.  Perhaps Guylain could find a Library which includes the necessary routines, however most of those found in a simple Google resort to "gymnastics" such as piping the data through multiple intermediate File Conversions (not a recipe for accuracy or reliability or flexibility).

There would also be a small number of additional complications - such as whether to produce CFA or Debayered data and whether to convert all the EXIF and BYE Shooting Data into FITS Header Keywords.

Perhaps you could elaborate on your particular uses of FITS data and the elements which would be of most use for you.
