EOS Utility Interferrence

Ron Hillstromb

Question

I had a problem night before last with EOS Utility interfering with BYEOS Ver 3 on my Surface Pro with Win 8.1.  I had applied the upgrade to EOS Utility earlier in the day.  When I plugged in the camera EOS Utility would automatically start up.  I would exit it then start BYE.  When I would try to connect, BYE would tell me that EOS Utility was running to close it then restart BYE.  I checked and EOS Utility was closed and when I would restart BYE and try to connect I got the same message without connecting.

I looked at all options in EOS Utility menus but never found how to turn it off.  I used Task Manager to close it even though it was in a standby mode.

Today a friend said he used MSConfig to turn off one of his autostart programs.  I looked for MSConfig but the closest I got to that was System Config.  In the Start Up section I found EOS Utility ready to launch.  I clicked on it then clicked on the 'disable' box and found happiness.

Passing on a solution I found to what may become a problem for others.

During the same session I had another problem.  I am using my 50D since my 7D is on the way to Canon and the 60Da is being pressed into service for my Wildlife photo trips.  I am one of the few who use the noise reduction feature but during the session the countdown would start after the shutter closed on the 60 second light frame but within 5 seconds it would start to write the file to the storage area.  I had terrible lights with a lot of noise.

That seems to be solved now that I have disabled EOS Utility.  If I have problems later I will post again and have the logs available.

Ron
