Devices and Printers Window

Poochpa

Question

I just purchased a laptop with Win7 Pro 64-bit. I've installed EOS Utility and BYE 3.1.2 Premium.  When I connect my Canon T2i and power it on, in addition to Canon EOS Utility opening, a window opens for "Hardware and Sound--Devices and Printers--Canon EOS Kiss X4," which shows various options and how much storage remains on the camera's sd card. How can I stop this window from opening, so I don't have to close it every time I power on the camera? My other laptop, also running Win7 does not do this, and only opens EOS Utility when I power on the camera, as excpected. The new laptop connects to BYE just fine, but I'd prefer not to have to close two windows. In fact, the Devices and Printers Window doesn't close when the window's "x" is pressed, but minimizes and has to be closed by right clicking on it in the system tray. Thanks.

Mike

OK, so I think that I figured out how to disable the Devices and Printers Popup window.

Open the Control Panel and the Autoplay applet.  Scroll down to the Devices section and set all instances of your camera (I have 3 for my T5i) to "Take no action".

That did it.

Thanks for asking that question.

My Windows 7 Home Premium x64 computer behaves the same way when I connect and power on my DSLR. I have looked for a way to prevent that window from popping up, but have not been successful. I have come to the conclusion that it is just a "feature" of the Microsoft driver that I must live with.

If anyone has a solution to this annoyance, I am all ears to hear about it.

Are you running the same driver version on both laptops?

I think the current version is euw2.14.10b

With that one, I get what I would call EOSUtility (white background) and another window that has the remote control menu item (blue background). Before this version I just got the EOS utility on the task bar. No devices and printers window, however. Windows 7 enterprise 64 bit.

The manual for eos utility 2.13 tells you how to make EOS Utility start when you connect the camera (unders windows 8), so perhaps to turn it off (under windows 7) in a similar way:

  • In the devices and printers windows, double click on the camera.
  •
  • Double click "Change General Settings" in the window that appears.
  •
  • UNSELECT EOS Utility in the "When This device connects to this PC" pull down menu.

It's not clear that this would stop the devices and printers windows from coming up, however.

Rick, that solved the issue for me too. Thank you, very much!
