Unable to connect camera with a longer usb c cable

Hello, I have a Canon EOS Ra camera, and was tired of the gymnastics I had to do to connect the camera with the included cable to my computer (the cable is very short, and as soon as I slew the telescope anywhere, I am jumping around to follow it with the computer in my hands).  I purchased a 10 ft usb c to usb c cable to alleviate the problem, but Backyard EOS won't connect my camera.  When I switch back to the original cable, it does connect no problem.  Is there a length issue?  Or is there something else that could be preventing my camera from connecting?

Well, the new USB extension cable may be faulty!

The length limitation for USB 2.0 is 16.5 ft, so it doesn't seem as though length is the issue.

Return that cable and purchase a good quality USB Active Extension cable.

Did you buy a charging cable or a data cable?  A lot of cable nowadays are strictly for charging. Cable quality is paramount.
