Meade LX200 GPS control question

GregMcKay

Question

Hi, I recently upgraded from the classic version to premium hoping that I could now control my telescope through BYEOS but I keep getting a driver error message when I try to configure the settings.  Here's the message I keep getting.

FYI, I know everything is up to date because I can connect and control my scope using Stellarium or the Meade Mini Control app.

That message is coming from ASCOM, so BYE can do nothing about it.  Try connecting to your scope with the ASCOM application POTH to confirm this.

Did you try the "please re-install" suggestion?

if your problem continues, and you confirm the same issue with POTH, I would suggest posting the issue to the ASCOM-Talk Group.

I tried the POTH program and it is working fine. I'll post the problem in the ASCOM Talk forum and see if they can help.

guyroch - It's a Win7 32bit laptop that I just installed it to. As I mentioned, Stellarium and Meade Mini Control and now I've tried the POTH program all seem to be working with no problems.

I've re-installed the ASCOM 6.1SP1 drivers still with no luck.

Correction, I just posted in the ASCOM talk forum and let them know of my mistake. POTH is NOT working when the Meade LX200 is selected.

In my rush to try connecting to the POTH earlier and didn't realize that it had selected the simulator and not the LX200.

I've mentioned that over at the ASCOM page so maybe someone will be able to help.

OK, so I was finally able to get past the initial problem thanks to the folks over at the ASCOM talk group but now I have a different problem. I just don't know enough about these programs to know if this problem belongs here or again over at the ASCOM talk group.

I get the scope connected and the focuser is working fine but the scope slewing is not. I keep getting the same error....

"Telescope ASCOM driver does not implement MoveAxis command: axisPrimary"  or axisSecondary

Does this problem belong here or on the ASCOM talk group? I'm asking here first because when I post on the ASCOM group it doesn't get posted for a couple of hours.

Thanks for the help.

ummm... the error is very specific... whoever implemented/programmed the ASCOM driver they did provide an implementation for these ASCOM commands.

Basically they did not code anything for the MoveAxis command which is what BYE uses to move/nudge the telescope.

Sorry if I sound dumb but does that mean this problem belongs in the ASCOM forum or here? Has this problem been noted? Can the Meade scope be controlled through BYEOS or not?

Maybe I should just be asking if there are any Meade LX200 owners that have made it work and if so, how?

It's not a BYE problem... the developer who developed the ASCOM driver did not program the MoveAxis command in the ASCOM driver.

The ASCOM driver is not complete.  You need to ask the developer of the ASCOM driver to program the MoveAxis command... then BYE will be able to move the RA and DEC axis.

What are you trying yo do with having your telescope connected to BYE?  BYE is a camera control program.  The ASCOM telescope is there for convinced to nudge your telescope, it is not there to control your telescope all night long or to replace your planetarium program.
