Backyardeos Does Not Scale Properly In Windows 7

DannySwish

Question

It appears that BackyardEOS doesn't scale up with DPI zoom settings in Windows 7 properly. The run-of-the-mill scaling issues are present; text gets too large for its allotted area and cuts off, etc. Disabling scaling individually for the program from the compatibility menu doesn't seem to have an effect, either.

This makes it difficult to use the program on higher resolution screens needing this scaling, and you are left with two evils: either a tiny UI, or a partially obscured UI.

Can this be fixed?

Sorry, I should've included a screenshot originally. Upon second look, it isn't actually too bad (I haven't actually had a chance to use BYE yet, so I wasn't sure what things should look like in the first place; I've since watched that livestream video)

The screen is set to 2880x1800 (native) resolution, and the DPI scaling in Windows is set to 200%. A few elements are clipping into each other.

The image is quite large, so I won't embed it: http://i.imgur.com/wwDIuWU.png

Here are the scaling settings: http://i.imgur.com/LMEGuhJ.png

Thanks for having a look.

Ummm... I don't really understand... I have the same resolution as yours (except I'm running w8) and all is fine here :(

I would be interested in getting feedback from other users running BYE on hi resolution and 4k monitors and see if they get the same behavior.

I have a 50" 4k monitor at work. I've used BYEOS for previewing, but not for imaging, on this monitor. Didn't notice anything odd (other than afterwards, on the laptop, windows can be off screen). I'll try to remember to take a camera to work and check it out next week.

My windows 7 resolution is higher than what is mentioned in this post, three thousand something on a monitor that can actually do four thousand something.

Not sure what to look for?

Thanks, just look for odd clipped text.  It will be very obvious.  If you do not see anything obvious it is scaling nicely on your monitor as it does on mine.

Maybe it's because I'm running Windows on a Mac through Bootcamp? I can't see why this should matter, but maybe it does. It's running directly, not with Parallels or anything.

Edit: I just launched BYE again, and the problems have vanished. It's fine now. I'm pretty sure it's Windows to blame at this point. I had to jumble around with the DPI scaling settings a few times and restart the system before BYE (and other programs, I should add) started scaling text correctly. The text and icons appear a bit soft from blowing them up, but that's nothing more than a minor cosmetic issue.

Hooked up my camera at work on the 50" Samsung 4K monitor. Resolution is 3840x2160. That's the highest my laptop can do but not the native resolution of the screen, which is 4096x2160.

Here's a screen shot:

I don't see any issues. Fonts and everything are clear.

Boy, that is a lot of screen real estate :)
