Choose The Right Product For Me To Purchase

M.Hobby

Question

Hi There,

I'm using the Canon EOS 6D (WG) and also the Hitecastro USB DC Focus Controller with ASCOM Platform 6.1, ASCOM HitecDC Focuser V1.3, ASCOM Diagnostics, ProfileExplorer and AstroTortilla 0.7.0.0 program install on Windows 10 64 Bit Version 2004. So which version of your Software that I need to purchase is going to work with my Hitecastro USB DC Focus Controller V1.2 which would save me using another separate program to control the focus and NEQ6 Pro Mount.

And another thing that I want to do is, use your Software to control my Sky-Watcher NEQ6 Pro Mount, so at the moment on using the ZWO ASI120MC-S Camera with ASIStudio V1.3.2.0 Software and AstroTortilla 0.7.0.0 Software to control my Mount at the moment. so can you please help me choose the right product for me to purchase.

BackyardEOS is a camera control program.  It does have focuser and telescope control, but they are for basic and manual operation mostly. The premium version is the only version that can control devices via ASCOM so there is no decision to make, it's the only version that can connect to focuser and telescope.

Try before you buy.  The trial edition is the 'premium' edition with the only exception that it is time limited, and it requires Internet at each application start up.

In addition to control Canon EOS DSLR cameras BYE also has limited control of telescopes, filter wheels, and focusers for those devices which have fully functional ASCCOM drivers. It is up to you to ensure that you understand whether your focuser and mount have compatible ASCOM drivers. BYE does not control ZWO cameras.

Also to use the ASCOM control capabilities of BYE and the Plate solving capability with Astro Tortilla, you MUST have a Premium license for BYE or BYN.

Again, it is up to you to do your homework to determine what capabilities BYE has and whether it will do all that you want it for. One thing that helps is that a Trial license is free for 30 days so that you can try BYE with your setup to determine if it will meet your needs. The Trial license requires an Internet connect so that it can phone home to verify that your license has not expired, but otherwise if fully functional. You should use it in the house at your kitchen table to verify operation with your camera and devices. You will also need to install the ASCOM drivers for devices other than the camera that you want to connect with.

Most ZWO ASI120 Cameras are used as Guider Cameras.  If this is also your intention, then the best AutoGuiding Software is PHD2 - which fully supports ASI120 and other Guider Cameras.  PHD2 gets configured to manage your Guider Camera and all related Mount Controls related to AutoGuiding.  It does so in a separate (background) task while you use BYE (and possibly AstroTortilla or your AutoFocuser software) in the foreground.  PHD2 interfaces with BYE when it comes time in an Imaging Session Plan for BYE to command that a Dither be performed.

If you are intending to use your ASI1210 for Planetary Imaging, you will need to consider either FireCapture or SharpCap or the ASIStudio software for that purpose.  BYE is focused on managing and facilitating the main Image Capture effort using your Canon DSLR.
