Issue with trial license

ajamesmccarthy

Question

I attempted to install and run the BackyardEOS trial and received the following error:

"License validation error! Trial version not valid. Please download the latest version of BackyardEOS." ( before you ask, Yes I have the latest version.)

This may be because I downloaded the trial a few years ago on an old pc when I first got into astrophotography, but I never used it (probably wouldn't have worked on my old Rebel anyway- that thing was ancient). I just bought a modded 6D so I plan on doing more DSLR work. I'd love to give this software a try.

You download and install the software. At this point it does not have any license. So your statement that you "downloaded the trial a few years ago" is incorrect.

If you applied the old Trial license to the latest software, they you would get an invalid license error because that Trial license is long expired.

The authors have been very understanding and will typically archive your old trial so that you can get a new, free Trial license from the Store. The license key is available to you on this site by clicking Orders from the My Purchases menu at the top of the page beside the tabs. You must be logged onto the site with the username that you used when you got the Trial license. You should Copy the license key from the Orders web page and Paste it into the license key field on the validation dialog in BYE (or BYN).

Also note that BYE with a Trial license requires an Internet connection every time that you start BYE in order to validate the Trial license. You can thank the license cheaters who tried to extend their Trial licenses by fiddling with the Windows system time. A purchased (Classic or Premium) license does not require an internet connection to operate.

You don't even have an active trial key.  The one you have under your account was issued in 2018.  Trial keys are valid for 30-days from the issue date.

I have archived your trial key form 2018, you should now be able to add it again to your cart for a second 30-day trial key.

In the future, please state the full version number you have, stating that you have the latest is not sufficient.  You wouldn't believe how many have claimed to have the latest and upon examination they had not.  Better to state the full version number and remove all assumption :)

Regards
