Nikon D40 / Infrared & DSUSB-IR1 Shoestring Astronomy device

Droogie 2001

Question

Hi,

I have recently purchased a DSUSB-IR1 Shoestring Astronomy device to work with my Nikon D40.

The device works fine with all aspects of the camera in the DSUSB check program which you can download from the Shoestring Astronomy website. So the device is fine.

However if I use BULB mode and try to say take two exposures of 60 seconds then all it does is open the camera shutter and remains that way until I stop it.

The log reports

20:19:01  Imaging session started.
20:19:03  Imaging session cancelled
20:19:03  DSUSB cable error: Unable to open shutter!

The program and camera works fine when set to 30 seconds.

The camera also works if I manually trigger an exposure with the IR remote.

I have tried different USB ports on the laptop but all produce the same error. I have tried DSUSB as the cable support and this is the only one that works (which I guess is expected)

Also running program in Vista SP2 compatibility mode.

Please can someone help me out?

Thanks.

I'm confused, this is a thread about the IR cable for the D40.

Do you have a D40 or a D5100?

Did you select DSUSB as your cable in BYN?  Please provide a print screen.  I have a D5100 and a DSUSB cable and it is working.

Regards,
