offtopic / newbie: how to get planets into focus?

akosmaroy

Question

Hi,

I'm a newbie to astrology and astro imaging. I have a question that is not strictly related to Backyard EOS - please direct me to appropriate other forums or discussion groups if necessary.

I'm trying to create images of planets, for example Saturn, but I can't really get a good focus / clear image using my EOS camera. The best I can get is what you can see in the screenshot attached. (The screenshot has been resized so as to accommodate the upload file size limit here on the forum.) When looking at the planet with the regular eyepiece, it is visible clearly to the human eye. I can even create an image of the planet with a cell phone pointing through the eyepiece that is better than what I see through the EOS camera.

What am I doing wrong?

I'm using the following:

Celestron AVX 152/1500 (6") Schmid-Cassegrain telescope

Canon EOS 5D Mk IV

Celestron T adapter

Celestron T-ring for Canon EOS cameras

Backyard EOS trial edition 3.1.18

Any pointers, including pointers to other (maybe more appropriate) forums welcome!

Ákos
