Planetary Mode or Movie Crop Mode for T2i?

Poochpa

Question

I'd like to start using my t2i for planetary imaging. Am I better off using Planetary Mode in BYEOS or the camera's movie crop mode? If I use the camera's movie crop mode, can BYEOS be used to start and stop the recording? Thanks.

BYE does not control movie mode, only live view.

In live view make sure you select 5x to get a 1:1 pixel resolution.

Your decision should be based in part on the Focal Length of your Scope.

T2i Crop Movie mode provides a tighter FOV due to it's 640x480 crop, compared to BYE Planetary 1020x690.

And you will get 60fps vs the 10-15fps that the combo of your T2i USB2 and Laptop can muster with BYE Planetary.

On the other hand, BYE is unable to help with Start-Stop/Frame-Count, Filenaming, Transfer to Laptop, or conversion from MOV to AVI, if you choose the Crop Movie Mode.
