Which EXIF data does BYE use to identify the Camera Temperature ??

s3igell

Question

I have various workflows where it is simpler to hook the DSLR up to a simple Intervalometer for capturing a series of Darks, rather than using the Laptop and BYE.

(This usually happens when I've gotten "over-exuberant" and run my Imaging Session until the Laptop Battery is way too Low to also handle the Darks capture...)

I'd like to know which EXIF to examine in order to manually post the Temperature into the resulting Filenames once I download those Darks from On-Camera.

I know the EXIF data is there, because Apps like DarkMaster can still identify the Temperature, but I'd like to try a workflow that involves an EXIF-Reader which can automatically update Filenames.

Right, saw that...

But, I'm looking for the "raw" EXIF Name/Identifier, for use in an EXIF App other than BYE (since BYE can't update Filenames after-the-fact for Images not taken via BYE...).

It's exif tag name is "Camera Temperature".

The "CameraTemperature" tag name *is* the default .cr2 tag name for the sensor temperature.

It is in every .cr2 file regardless if it was taken with BYE or not.

FYI, in case you are using Dark Master, it actually uses the EXIF data and not the file names.

I don't use any particular directory structure inside my DARKLIB folder, and let DarkMaster pull out the iso/temp/exposure matches.

Not sure if that applies if you're stacking in something other than DSS, however.

Yup, I've been an advocate for DarkMaster for some time...

However, there are always cases in one's workflow where neither DarkMaster nor BYE Filenames can be used.  And in those cases, knowing the original EXIF Field Name is quite useful...

Hi all,

I am trying to locate the CameraTemperature tag from the EXIF of my Canon t3i without success. I am viewing all bunch of tags but this specific one is not there.

BYE 3.0.3 is able however to read the sensor's temperature at acquisition.

My computer is running Mac OS 10.10.1. I have used the default viewer from the OS (EXIF view from the inspector when opening a CR2 file using preview), as well as EXIF Viewer (free from the app store) and even a text editor to check if I was not able to locate something.

Is this camera generates the CameraTemperature tag? If so, do you have something to suggest to view it?

I am trying to inspect the temperature of some files that were not captured using BYE.

Thank you,

The tag is there otherwise BYE would not be able to display the sensor temp.

The tag name is "Camera Temperature".
