Great product!

Is there a way of reducing the dead time between frames, without taking longer exposures (so fewer frames in total)? It looks like I am losing 15s for each exposure; I am not sure what is a normal interframe delay?

TIA,

There is no dead time between frames unless you have set a pause.

The only time between frames is the actual -download- time.  Everything else is sent to a background thread for processing.

Does it actually take 15 seconds to download?

There are rather few "Essential Actions" performed between Exposures - mainly Download of the Just-Completed Exposure (which the Canon SDK requires before another Exposure is Started).  Other than that, the Dither action is "user selected" and the EXIF Processing and Histogram and Image Review are all relegated to a BackgroundWorker thread.

So, if 15sec is deemed "Too Long" then your only recourses are:

1) Work to ensure the Download Time is as fast as possible - simplify your USB2 connection or try a USB3 Port (some are faster at USB2 Transfers than the native-USB2 Ports on the same PC)

2) Select SaveTo: PC-only to defeat the Download process - this means you have NO Image Review and essentially turns BYE into a rather complicated Intervalometer

Most of us gladly allocate both the Download and Dither/Settle Times toward the Goal of having Best-Overall Image Results...

It would be nice if the estimated finish could be shown BEFORE you pressed capture.

That would make it easier to adjust the number of exposures, etc. given the time at which your target crosses the meridian or goes behind a tree etc.

I'll put that one on the to do list.  It would be useful for sure.

In both a "Pre-Execution" and the "Mid-Execution" versions of the "Estimated Capture Plan Completion Time", it would be great if we could somehow also estimate the additional time for "Download" and "Dither / Settle / Calm" as well as the "Delay" and "Pause" components of the Capture Plan.

Yes, that's a lot to ask...  But, when shooting mid-length Exposures, these other Timed Components do contribute significantly to the ultimate Completion Time.  And that can mean chasing an Object too far toward a Horizon or into a Tripod Leg...

Perhaps the "indeterminate timed" elements (Dither / Settle) could be accounted for by a user-entered value tucked in the PHD Guider section of the Settings...

They already are.  The estimated dead time between images is extirpated at 30 seconds and is recalculated between each images and the estimated completed is adjusted.
