Mirror lock control for Canon 90D

smstun8

Question

I am thinking about purchasing a Canon 90D for astrophotography and noticed that its mirror lock control isn't supported by the software. Is this something that may be added or fixed in a later update, or will that never work for the 90D? Backyard EOS has been wonderful on my 70D, but was hoping to upgrade the camera and this issue has been holding me back on getting the 90D. Thank you for your time on this and the wonderful software.

Mirror Lock is not supported by the Canon SDK for most of it's DSLRs.  But in reality, Mirror Lock is not a significant issue for Deep Space Imaging, nor an issue at all for Planetary Imaging.  In the former case, the mass of the Scope and Mount AND the Settling Time being such a short portion of the overall Exposure, any minor Mirror Slap is quickly subsumed in the overall exposure.  In the latter case, the Video captures all of the Scintillation and Distortion of the Atmosphere even though the Mirror is UP for the duration as part of Video / LiveView Capture.

As mentioned above, mirror lock is one of those features people think they need because is sounds cool, but in fact on long exposure imaging any vibration caused by the mirror (if any) is quickly washed out within the first few seconds of the image and it makes no real difference.

What is your use case?
