Camera connect options not showing

pselaphid

Question

I got a Canon Ra for a Christmas present to myself. I loaded the latest version of Backyard EOS on my Windows 10 laptop during Dec. using the default prompts and connected the Ra to it. BYE opened as usual but did not show any options that normally show on startup about the camera manufacturing date etc., just a generic "Some cameras require specific drivers etc." screen. I had downloaded all the necessary drivers and updated firmware for the Ra. I figured BYE wasn't supporting the camera yet and didn't think much of it.

But last night I tried to connect my 60Da as I have done many times before, and the same thing happened. No options to connect camera. I think I read that this startup selection window has been simplified, but it is not showing anything at all to select. And, yes, I checked to make sure the Canon utility was not running. I suspect something to do with new BYE version download. Perhaps I didn't clear all the old files prior to the new install, something simple like that? But I thought I'd check before reinstalling BYE.

Both cameras work fine using the Canon Utility for remote shooting. Pretty sure I've done these update downloads before and everything has worked without additional effort on my part.

Suggestions?

This has been discussed a few times already.  I'm not sure why this is happening to be honest but it appears to either be an installer issue or a dll conflict of some sort.

Please uninstall BYE and reinstall in a separate folder, reboot, and see if this works.

Keep us posted please.

Regards,

Seems to have done the trick. I uninstalled BYE then found the BYE folder in programs and deleted all the leftover files prior to reinstalling. Both cameras connect as normal and I'll test the Ra on the Moon tonight. Suppose I might have figured it out, but this saved me some time.

Thanks
