Images not transfering to PC

JAHAZAN

Question

First off, I just want to say that I've been using Backyard EOS for years and it has worked great.  I love this software.

My problems came up when I upgraded my laptop.  I put in a brand new SSD, and did a clean install of windows 10.

Backyard EOS is connecting to my camera (stock Canon T3i aka 600D) via USB and is able to drive image captures, but for some reason the images aren't transferring to the computer.  I know there is a drop-down menu to select where the images are stored (camera only, PC only, or camera + PC) but changing setting this doesn't work.

Any help or suggestions are welcome.  I'm still kicking myself for not checking out all of my equipment before going out last night.

Correct, you need to turn in off in-camera noise reduction using the camera menu, not software.

For most models this is a custom function, so you may need to dig into that section of the camera menu to get to it.  They don't make it obvious.

Did you perform a camera factory setting reset?

That fixed it !! Awesome support. Cheers

You will need to check the Folder Permissions for the Output Folder.  With Windows 10 Installs, the Permissions System is more sensitive (and more likely to be messed-up by Windows Installs/Upgrades/Patches).

For BYE, set the Storage to PC-Only as some newer Cameras have issues with Camera+PC.

I wanted to add-on to this. Im having the exact same issue. Running trial edition 3.1.17, win 10. I have done everything I can do but it will not save a file to the hard drive. Had it in users folder per setup, then desktop, then root c:/, nothing. Its my last day of the trial and I love the software but this has been a bit of a hair puller. Canon EOS utility saves without an issue.

Help ? I want to buy the premier but would love to save atleast one file ?

Hi Will.  This thread has been marked as solved.  In the future, please start a new thread, it will make it easier to follow and your issue may or may not be related to the original post.

Please elaborate on "I have done everything"... this is too general to provide any meaningful assistance.

I can give you a 2nd 30-day trial if required.

Regards.

I re-downloaded and I think the ver is one rev up (x.x.18 no .17).  I travel a lot, so I have only had the last week to play with it. Im a mac guy, but Im not dumb. Windows 10 is kicking my butt today. any help would be appreciated.

Hi Will,

Okay, I just archived your 1st trial key, it's now deactivated.

Please go ahead and add it again in your cart and proceed to checkout for a second 30-day trial.

Regards,

Regards,

Much appreciated, but I still can not write to the HD. I have changed every permission for every user and I am unable to save to the HD. Again, I can manually drag files in and out and save to the same folder form other applications (word, photoshop etc). EOS saves to the HD and camera with no issue. I am at a loss as to what I can do.

Win 10 pro

10.0.17763 build

If you want me to start a new thread, I would be happy to do so.

Cheers

Nigel

Go through the settings on the Camera.  If necessary, perform a Factory Reset on the Camera.

And, for the record, what Directory are you expecting the Images to be written into??  (Full Directory Name)

Thanks for quick response. WIll try reset. I tried users backyard eos folder (the one setup from install), on desktop, on C:/(created a folder) and so on.

The Images will be written to the location specified in the BYE Settings "Download folder" entry (modified by the "Sub-folders" entry - if set).  That would usually mean C:/Users/yournamehere/Pictures/BackyardEOS/...

(backslashes not working in Post Editor)

It is correctly set. I have tried other folders. Again I can read/write from any other application. I have reset camera. Still no luck. One odd thing, I was able to make a movie which saved to PLANETARY folder.

This sounds like a Permissions Issue.

  1. Check the properties for your BYE Start Icon.  You don't have it set to Execute as any user other than "3dwel", do you??
  2. Check the properties/permissions of BackyardTEMP (this is the directory which the Images are first downloaded to before EXIF Updates and such are performed then Image is moved to BackyardEOS).
  3. After shutting down BYE, Delete both Pictures/BackyardTEMP and Pictures/BackyardEOS.  Then start BYE (and let it recreate these directories).

Thanks. Will try. Funnily enough the snap jpg images are now saving to the folder, but not the RAW files.

I did as you said. No luck. As I said, it is saving the snap jpg. I am running app as 3dwel (did try the old right click, run as admin...).

Which Directories are you checking for the existence of these Image files - Snap JPGs, RAW Image Files, TIFF, etc

Understood. c:/users/3dwel/Pictures/backyardeos/..

BackyardTEMP is in root of c:/users/3dwel/Pictures/

Like I said its creating the snap images

I got your log file.  However, there is nothing useful in them, there is only a few snap pictures and they are downloaded properly.

Please try again and take pictures from the image tab, not frame and focus.  I need a log file where you get the behavior you get where no images are saved.

Thank you

ummm.... looking at the logfiles again.... it looks like you have in-camera noise reduction set to auto.  Please turn it off and try again.

2020-01-02 18:15:24,013 [Main] INFO  - CameraPropertyChangedArgs fired: NoiseReduction       = 'Auto'

Thanks. Sorry to be a noob, I assume this is "in the camera" not within the software ?
