Question

BackyardEOS 3.1.0 Release Candidate 05 is ready for download.

RC05 is pretty solid,  this looks like it will be the final RC before full production release... late October I hope.

Free upgrade from 3.0.x to 3.1.0 to everyone as usual.

Change log (from RC04)

- bug fix: Abort session was not working correctly when abort a session within 1 second of starting it.

- bug fix: Some images where not named "Abort..." after a abort session.

- change: Added FWHM focus metric in the spot histogram (Premium edition).

- change: Off-plan edition is removed.  This functionality is now available in the new Preview feature.

- feature: New Preview feature to view images while camera is disconnected (Premium Edition)
- Testing on XP, Vista, W7, and W8

This Release Candidate will NOT overwrite your current v3.0.x installation.

RC05 Planetary. Zoom Box is unlocked but won't move. This after zooming in and out and moving to make a mosaic of the moon. Going in and out of planetary didn't help, but I finally got it to move again after going back into and out of 5x again.

5x is 1:1 right?

I was playing with the PREVIEW mode and wondered if there is any way to remove (not physically delete the file, just remove) a thumbnail and associated image after it has been loaded. Sometimes you make a mistake and grab the wrong photo or a photo within a group of photos, drag and drop it, and it just clutters the workspace. It would be nice if there was a way to remove such files from the thumbnail area.

Camera disconnected after screen turned off (power saver plan).

And, I've never understood what the extra image window is that pops up 1/4 size, after a coming back from a lock screen.

I don't understand what you mean?  What extra image?

Do you have your disk go to sleep as well in your power saver plan?  If yes that is a major issue and it will never resume normal activity due to the way the SDK works... and this will lead to a camera disconnect.

Well I wish I had a screen capture, but I'm imaging right now so...

When you unlock your laptop, after it turns off the screen, BYOES always has two windows. One that is a 1/4 size and only showing an image. No other items just an image.

As far as I know all versions do this.

I changed my power plan to never turn off the screen while plugged in. I have an SSD, so not sure the "harddisk" settings apply, but I just changed that as well, just in case.

RC05 Camera 2 crash on reconnecting camera after intentional disconnect.

As I posted in the How To thread, I have two T3i's. Don't know if that's an issue or not. I was only running the Camera 2 BYEOS instance at the time of the crash.

OK, here's a screen shot of the "after screen saver" "extra" BYEOS window. It's larger than the 1/4 size I normally see on my laptop screen, as at the moment I'm on a 51" 4k monitor, but you get the idea. Also normally there is an image in the "extra" window, usually not the current one but maybe one or more back, however this morning I don't have a camera connected, although I did drag in some previews.

post-3116186-14189387778_thumb.png
The "extra" window is on top of the regular BYEOS window, showing 386% zoom.

I'm hot saying this is a bug, I just don't know what it's for or where it comes from, etc. Just something that I have to close every time it comes up, to see the main window.

Also again this is not specific to RC05. I just finally got around to asking about it.

I am having a problem with folders of the .jpg files taken in Planetary mode.

The .avi files are being transferred to the designated directory but put in the folder Planetary and not under the target name.  None of the folders are being transferred but are left in Backyard Temp/Download directory.

I found this yesterday when doing some solar imaging and duplicated it last night using the moon as a target.

All of the files are there in one place of the other but not together.

I am using VirtualDub and that may be the cause.  Not sure if it requires manual transfer.

Logs will be sent to Support address.

Wow, this is weird.  I'll try to replicate.

Ron,

I believe that the Planetary folder is the intended location for .avi files. The target is part of the .avi file name.

I tested both RC04 and RC05 and the folder with the saved .jpg files was moved to the Planetary folder in both versions. I did not do anything special, like install VirtualDub, so I was using the default conversion scheme. So, use of VirtualDub may be having an effect.

In this case it is a confirmed bug.

It's a bug.  I'll need to fix it.  Basically the move fails when the drive of the TEMP folder is different from the drive of your final download folder.  Probably from something like D: to C:.

  Thanks.

Actually I stumbled on this problem.  After I was able to duplicate it the report was sent.  The fix can be in 3.10 and not a week or two later.

I am pretty sure I have completed some Planetary work and had every thing in a single folder.  Yes rick I think all of the .avis are/were in the Planetary folder.

I have clouds tonight so I will table top test on all of the Version 3.0X software and report back.

Well, I guess that explains why I was not able to duplicate the issue.  All my folders are on the same drive.

It sounds like it should be an easy fix.

Yeah, easy.  If same drive do a MOVE, if drive is different do a COPY... then DELETE content of TEMP :)

Well my specifics to get that this morning:

Personalize --> Screen saver to "none"

Screen Saver --> On resume, display logon screen; checked

Set Wait to 1 min (just for debug, mine is normally set to 15 minutes)

Then wait for the screen to go dark, then wiggle the mouse to get the login screen, and log in.

Hello

I tested on 3.0.1, 3.0.2 and 3.0.3 all with the same result as RC05.  The .jpg folders were not transferred.  The .avi files were transferred to F[tongue]lanetary.

I stepped back to Version 2.0.9 and the .jpg folders were transferred to F[tongue]lanetary.

Guylain I hope this will help quash or squash this bug quickly.

Log files available on request but reading them I find the error requiring the folder transfer to be on the same drive is in all of the Version 3 backgrounder logs.  Version 2.0.9 shows transfer was accomplished as it was.

If I put Screen saver to None I can't set any wait time at all. With "none" there is nothing to wait for on my Win 8.1 laptop.

Jerry,

That note was for Guylain re: the extra window.

Sorry for the confusion. It happens when we post all RC05 issues in one thread.

No need to apologize. I still can't replicate the issue with extra window, though.

RC05 Preview Mode - another Niggle...

The Mouse Cursor Icon during the Drag / Drop in Preview Mode remains a "Invalid" symbol (Slashed Grey Circle) even when hovering over the proper Preview "window".

Shouldn't the Mouse Icon turn to a "Permissive" Icon when one is hovering over the correct area which WILL allow the Drop ??

OK, well now that we're on the same page, I just tried it again on my machine with "blank" as the screen saver, and was able to duplicate, if you want to try "blank" on your windows 8 machine.

FYI I'm on windows 7 64 bit.

I still have no issues even after duplicating your problem step-by-step.

No extra windows or boxes. Running Win 8.1 64 bit.
