LOL, I tought it would have been obvious... but I'am just glad I was able to find a way to implement it in an un-intrusive way.  It is one of those features that is going to be so useful.

Thanks for watching :)

It would have been very difficult to spot because you were connected almost all the time and on top of it Preview and Imaging are sharing same icon. Never the less I have noticed right away that you were dragging images into BYE so I tried it and no matter if I dragged from Desktop or Explorer it was a no go. So, yup, I spotted new feature right away.

This morning I am compiling index of your video and will post it as text file when finished.

Thanks for that Astro Imaging Group Demo Session!!  I just finished watching the Playback (in spurts, while doing my Monday at Home Chores)...

You know that you have a Full-Featured Software when it takes over 2hrs to give it a Demo worthy of its Main Feature Set!!

I, too, was surprised to learn about the Preview Mode...

(Goes to show that I'm usually straight into Connect and then Frame&Focus as soon as the App finishes Initialization...)

You might almost post the Link to that Session (or the YouTube Video) as your first FAQ!!

(It's almost sufficient to replace the sometimes necessary sub-vocal "RTFM"...    )

A great video presentation!

I do have a question.  In your discussion of PLANETARY, you mentioned to always use 5X with very sound reasons for doing so.  But Premium also has 10X capability which you never discussed at all.  Was there a reason you ommitted it from the chat?  There must have been some purpose in your implementing it in BYE.

Yep... and the 10X is in advance settings for that reason.

10x is a simple 2x resize on the 5x image.... which will give you pixel ratio of 4 to 1... which means there is image transformation for the resize so you loose quality.

5x = 1 to 1 pixel ratio... the best quality you can get out of a DSLR live view.

Hope this makes sense.

Thanks!

I also heard you mention that the Canon 6D had the best resolution of all the Canons.  How does the 60Da stack up.  Currently, I'm using a T2i and have been fairly pleased but I know it won't last forever so I like to keep thinking about the future.

I didn't say the 6D had the best resolution.  I said, if I recall correctly, that the 6D has very little noise, even at room temperature, compared to other Canon DSLR.

I would not get a 60D or 60Da if this were me.  This model has a huge disadvantage when tethered to a computer because it has a 'B' dial mode for BULB and M for TV.  Which means you have to touch the camera when you want go from BULB to TV and back.

Just my 2 cents... the the 60D and 60Da are good cameras for sure.

Guylain,

I would like to add my 2 1/2 cents about the Live Demo:  Fantastic, I learned a lot.  I do have a question about your last post under this thread:

You think they're good cameras, but you don't recommend them?  Is the disadvantage you listed the only reason?  I'm still learning about your program, astrophotography and my 60Da but been kind'a under the impression that a shooting plan was pretty much done under one setting with no need to "fiddle" with the camera.  Is this incorrect?

Thanx

John

For me yes, this is enough not to get the 60D or 60Da.  I do not want to physically get up and touch the camera just because I need to go from BULB to TV and back.

Live view simulation is not active in BULB so if you are doing planetary work you need to move the dial in M dial mode.

There are also known issues with earlier models of the 60D / 60Da where the camera goes dead, no signal of life.  If still under warranty Canon will replace the faulty PCB assembly unit and the camera is then good for a second life with no know issues after that.

But for me, and that is only me, the need to touch the camera to change the from BULB to TV and back is enough of a deterrent.

BUT, if you do have (or plan to have) a 60D or 60Da do not throw it away.  It is a good camera, no doubt about that.  Use it and be proud because it is not consolation prize, it is worthy of 1st prize for sure.

BTW I do own a 60D... and a 20D, 350D, 450D, 550D, 600D, 1000D...

Hope this help.

I have BOTH a T2i and a 60D (not 60Da), and use BOTH for AP Imaging on occasion.

The 60D and the T2i use the Same Sensor - with slightly better supporting Electronics for the 60D (improved Frames-per-Second, deeper Frame Buffer, etc - not essential for AP Imaging).  As a Bonus, both T2i and 60D have the Crop Movie 640x480 60fps 1:1 Video Mode that seems Custom Made for Planetary Imaging.

Your T2i is a Very Good Camera for AP Imaging - only improved if you can send it in to be Modded for Improved IR / Ha Response (Hap Griffin / Gary Honis).

IMO, there isn't enough difference from an AP Imaging Perspective to move from a T2i to a 60Da.  You'd be better off looking for a Discount Price T3i or T5i as your next DSLR - and do send it in for the IR/Ha Mod.  (I went with the 60D mostly for its Daylight Imaging capabilities... Plus it was a decent 2nd for AP Imaging.)

But, your T2i will likely live a Long and Productive Life as an AP Imager.
