well its getting to that time of year when I can brush the scope down and have a play. So here the question is Backyardnickon up and running full on what cables do I need to use my D90 in bulb mode

You need a DSUSB cable or Steve's serial cable here.

In addition to DSUSB Bulb Control cable, you also need a regular USB cable.

Right the usb one is the one I use for getting my photos off the camera right and the other Steve cable how much is it. Also where do I download the full version of Backyardnickon I have a beta version?

Look at the topmost, pinned topics in the BackyareNIKON Pre-Release Forum.  There is history about Steve's cable, including a photo of what it looks like and how to contact him off-group.

As of now, Sept 5th, only beta versions have been released.  I believe that the latest beta version is good for a few more weeks.

Just one last thing got a new lappy at the moment its running on windows 8 the guy ithe the shop said this will soon change to windows 8.1 will things still be ok
