Some trouble with a D800E and Bulb

valerio

Question

Hi Guylain

I am new to this forum, I have a D800E and I do not understand the reason why this particular model can not shoot in bulb with a standard USB cable (with Beta 02e).

Looking on the website of Nikon seems that there is an SDK for this model and other softwares can handle the bulb with this camera. Maybe I missed some previous message in the forum. BackyardNIKON is a wonderful software, but I have a D800E and I'd like to exploit it in the simplest way possible.

Thank you very much

Valerio

I too have a D800e and would be willing to lend a hand, as it is now, the only reason I do not use this program to its fullest is the fact of not being able to use bulb mode. If you let some of us know what it is you need we would be more than happy to lend a helping hand.  I would figure the only reason you need to lay hands on the physical camera is so you can sniff out the usb traffic and there are probably more than a few on here willing and able to do such a thing.

Really all we would need is to know what functions you are looking to include, and what format you would like the logs sent to you in.  I can understand if you wish to keep it all in house, so to speak. I also understand how tedious it is coding for so many different things that are so similar, yet so vastly different.

Either way keep up the great work.

As I said before, I need a physical camera for testing, that is it.  I do not own a D800 or D600 so I need to rent one.  During the summer I go camping every weekend with my wife so I have no time to rent a camera and hide myself in the basement for a full weekend to figure it out.  Since I have a day job I can only to this on the weekends <_>

I should be getting a full free weekend in October, I'll to rent a camera then and see how it goes.

Thanks for the helping hand :)

Hi Valerio,

As indicated in the support grid matrix I still have issues with the D800 and D800E to support BULB over USB only.  It currently only work if you use a serial cable and then set "Force use serial cable" in Settings -> Advance settings.

http://www.otelescope.com/index.php?/topic/119-backyardnikon-v1-beta-progress-grid/

I will need to rent a D800 for a weekend to find out what is the cause.  I'll do that soon I hope.

Hi Guylain

How the test is going with the Nikon D3X D4 in Bulb mode?

Have a solution soon?

Gilberto Rossi

No solution yet, I need to rent a camera on a weekend that I have nothing else planned to I can spend as much time with it to solve the issue.

In the meantime BULB will work if you have a serial cable or DSUSB to activate bulb.  You would need to go to settings -> advance settings and enable "Force use serial cable"... then select your serial cable type in the image capture plan and BYN will use the serial cable for BULB and that will work.  This is a temporary solution until I find the root cause.
