D5100 won't connect using DSUSB

jspratt

Question

Hi there,

I've purchased a DSUSB cable from shoestring astronomy. Using the DSUSBchecker app it seems to connect to my laptop fine, however on BYN I can't connect whatsoever. I was using the old 1.0 version with no luck and downloaded BYN 2.0 with no change. I tried with my standard USB cable and it managed to eventually connect after a number of attempts and restarts. This problem seems to happen each time I try to connect my d5100 to BYN, it always struggles to connect at first and takes a number of goes or restarts of my laptop to connect. However with the DSUSB it doesn't look like it's happen at all.

Do you know if this is a common problem, and what the solution might be?

Cheers,

Jonathan

Thanks for the quick responses! I have plugged them both in now and it connects, however I am unable to get BULB mode working. I get the message:

'Your camera requires a configured serial cable for BULB or Mirror Lock.'

Is this an issue with the DSUSB cable?

Cheers

Edit: The SD was also taken out when attempting to take the image

Edit 2: GOT IT. Forgot to change the cable drop-down! All working now, thanks for the help everyone.

Glad you got it to work.

Also, you issues with connecting the camera might be due a full memory card.  Please make sure you either have no card in the camera or it if does make sure there are very few images on it.  This is because the Nikon SKD creates and index of all images on the card when a connection is established and this can take more time than the built-in timeout timer.
