BYE 3rd-party API used as basis for ASCOM.DSLR Driver

s3igell

Question

I don't know how much success this Project is having, as I have not tested it.

But the author describes one of his Connection Paths for his ASCOM.DSLR Driver as "using BackyardEOS 3rd-party API".

Check it out if interested:  http://www.astronomyforum.net/astronomy-software-forum/253480-ascom-dslr-ascom-driver-dslr-camers-canon-nikon.html

Thanks, S3igell.  Here is the direct link to the Github site:  https://github.com/FearL0rd/ASCOM.DSLR.

Looks like the new developer moved away from the BYE API but it is hard to tell.  Definitely not full featured like BYE but interesting nonetheless.  I can see using it for the PA routines in SharpCap (hint, hint, Guylain) but I still prefer BYE for imaging when using the DSLR.

FYI, As of November 2024, the ASCOM.DSLR project can still use the BYE connection method, and it is actually more reliable than the direct connection method in my experience. There are a few odd behaviors that pop up when using BYE for the connection driver, but none of them are serious road blocks, and it is functional. I have been using it for the last few weeks while gathering photons from the Witch Head Nebula.

It is good to hear that ASCOM.DSLR is successfully offering an alternative approach for DSLR connectivity.

However, if you or any user is having problems with connectivity of BYE or BYN to any supported DSLR, you really need to report those issues in the appropriate forum so that the Dev Team can follow-up and help you resolve them.
