Question

Still working my way through the BYE manual.

Could someone translate the following:

Some notes regarding Darks and Flats

2. "Choose the appropriate TV shutter that will give the 30,000 you are seeking. You

may have to take a few test shots to find out the necessary TV shutter required to

produce the optimal ADU (25,000-30,000.)"

Googling ADU got me nowhere...

Many thanks

Geoff

ADU stands for 'analog-to-digital units'.  It is the raw pixel value.  On a 16-bit scale, the range of the value is from 0 (black) to 65535 (fully-saturated white). So a value of 25000-30000 would be near the middle.

When shooting flat frames you want the histogram graph to be near the center (from left-to-right) with both the leading and trailing shoulders of the peak to be well away from the left and right edges of the graph.

So item 2 is saying that you can take some test shots to determine the appropriate shutter speed (Tv value) to put the histogram data into that desired position.
