Will not execute plan

aerodave3

Question

Ok when i set up a new capture plan, load and press start capture, it captures the first exposure only. Then stops. The work “abort” flashed for a split second after the first capture. What am I doing wrong? Does this software not have a user guide?

For some reason i am having intermittent problems connecting my camera to BYN. It doesn’t happen all the time but it seems when it will not connect it doesnt matter what I try. Not sure what to do.

The ? You refer to has no response when I click on it. See logs below

Log attached. When I set up a capture plan it will execute as long as I have it set to “save to PC”. If I attempt to have images saved to “PC and camera” it aborts after he first image is take. Also If I “load” the plan it will abort as well after the first capture. What am I doing wrong? Thanks so much!

David

PS scroll down to end of log which is an example of where i was having problems.

<< log file deleted >>  TOO LONG.

Hi, I see you have a lens.

1) Please remove the lens and try again.

2) Please set BYN to save to PC only.  I see you have it set to PC+Card and some camera will not save to card when tethered to a PC.

In the future send the log file to support [-at-] otelescope [-dot-] com as per the instructions.  They are too long to post them in a post like this.

If you want to post the log file file just post the section you feel adds value, it's easier for us reading this post in the future.

Keep us posted.

The "?" should start a session of your PC's default PDF Viewer with the BYN User Guide.

If that fails to happen, then there seems 3 possibilities:

  1. Your PC's configuration for PDF Viewer has something amiss
  2. Your PC's security configuration has gotten messed up for the BYN Application Directory
  3. Your BYN Installation had something go wrong

You should first make sure that your PC does indeed Open PDF files successfully when directly double-clicking on a PDF file.

You can address this in the short-term by creating a Windows Shortcut to the actual User Guide PDF file found in the Program Files (x86) BackyardNikon directory.

Most likely #1.

In any case, you can always navigate to the Windows folder where BYE is installed and click the PDF directly.  If it still fails then this confirms the issue being #1.

I have noticed that a plan can be executed if I do not “load” the plan. I just place the parameters and then “start capture” and it works great. Also I have noticed that I can not record the picture data to camera + PC. Only PC. I guess my D800 will not alllow tethered recording.

Thanks again for your help and patience with a nu b like me. Love this new  hobby!

As Guylain said previously, saving to both the PC and the camera does not work equally well for all cameras. The inconsistency may be the result of an issue with the Nikon software that BYN uses. I am not sure what you meant by "tethered recording", but historically recording has not been an issue when you save to the PC only.

If BYN has a problem loading and executing a capture plan, then having the log file from that session (not all log files, just one that has the issue), as well as the capture plan file, may be helpful. Do not post them here, but zip them up and send them to Guylain directly.

Thanks, I will do that. Thinks seem to be up and running. Shot 20 light frames of M63 last night, 20 darks, 20 flats and 20 bias. Placed them in DSS and was so happy to see a result despite the blazing moonlight. Tonight i shot 40 lihts and the same # darks, etc of M51 and the previewed lights look great. The plan executed just fine. Again it is so bright with the moon I dont expect greatness but I am learning all the same.

By tethered recording I just mean the pictures are recorded on the camera flashdrive as well as the PC. Not a critical issue to be sure.

Thanks again!
