BackyardNIKON v1 BETA 02c is ready for download

Question

BackyardNIKON v1 BETA 02c is ready for download

*** DOWNLOAD BackyardNIKON v1 BETA 02c ***

http://www.binaryrivers.com/download/setup-BackyardNIKON-v100-BETA02c.exe

Change log

- Weather Center C to F degrees conversion bug fix

- PHD dithering port number bug fix

- Image not displayed in Image Capture bug fix

- Maximum Aperture setting is renamed to Maximum Sensitivity and the default is now OFF.

- D3 BULB over Serial now supported.

- Minor performance improvement

- Testing on XP, Vista, W7, and W8

The "

Image not displayed in Image Capture bug fix" was a bit tricky to solved because there were 3 different issues leading to this bug; (1) cross thread method invoker failed sometimes, (2) the background worker failed to start on some computers, and (3) loading a jpg image failed sometime and threw an 'out of memory' error.  All 3 are fixed.  However, the out-of-memory error still occurs from time to time but it is not critical because the image was downloaded properly.  The error occurs inside .Net trying to update the image picture box <_ i continue to dig in hoping find a solution.>

You can refer to this grid for a quick overview.

Please report your findings using this thread.

As with other beta releases, the setup.exe is pre-packaged with its own tester license.

BETA 02c will install side-by-side to other betas, it will not overwrite BETA 02.

Thank you for all your support in getting this to a production quality.

Guylain & Chris.

Hi

quick report from my garden.....seems I am also having issues with the captured images going to the Pictures folder and appearing in the preview/thumbnail area.

Have restarted both program and also laptop and am having the same issue.

Did not have any problem with previous beta builds, only this latest one.

The images are coming through (were initially sat in TEMP/DOWNLOAD folder) but it is excrutiangly slow.  After a session of 30 x 20s images with a 10 sec pause was sat with 12 showing in queue.

Send me the backgroundworker log file and I'll confirm the time is takes for each image.  It is normal to take about 20 to 30 seconds per image depending on your computer.

Keep me posted,

Regards,

Guy

Will grab the log file this evening when home and post up...cheers

Hi Guylain,

What's the prospect of correcting the D800 USB Bulb problem?

Cheers,

Wei-Hao

Hi Wei-Hao,

I don't know what the issue is just yet to be honest.  It looks to me like the high-end cameras might be like the Canon ones, where BULB has it's own dial setting and can not be achieved in Manual mode.  If this is the case I'm hoping the Nikon SDK will allow me to set the dial value like Canon allows me to on the high-end models.  I need to rent a D800 for a weekend to fix it... and this is hard time to find during summer because my wife and I go camping every weekend in the summer.  This is probably a project for fall... not because it's complicated to fix, but because I can't seem to find the time otherwise <_>

Hope this helps,

Got my DSUB back.  It was a bad cable.  Right now it connects and fires bulb.  Saves and names picture files in my folders.  Everything works for now.

Yeah, glad it all works Will... it's been a long time coming for you.

Hi,

I am a noob to BYN. I downloaded the Beta and installed it. Starting the program comes up with "License Expired" message followed with a screen showing "Validate License" dialog. Is the duration of test license expired already? if not, can you please let me know how to validate the license.

Appreciate your effort in coming up with BYN to make it easy for Nikon users like me. Thank you very much.

Are you sure your downloaded the latest BETA02c?  This one is good until September.

If yes try installing it in a different folder, that should work.

Keep us posted,

Same issue again tis evening too...pictures are going into the download folder, but do not appear to be heading into the Pictures folder.

A Preview grab goes through fine though.

Have attached the log file from just now for you

Regards

I need the background worker log as well, otherwise I can not reconstruct the whole picture.

Thanks,

Log files are in "My Pictures\BackyardTEMP\logs".

Send me an email at support@binaryrivers.com and I'll send you a special download link.  I would like to confirm if I have fixed before releasing RC3.

I just tried the 2c and it connects to my D5100 and will fire shutter to 30seconds.  I sent my DSUB in for check.  It probably is bad and that's why it wont fire bulb.  But for now at least the program connects to the D5100 and fires over the USB.  I'll test it some more for any other issues.  Thanks Guylain.  William

William,

Make sure you select "DSUSB" from the "Cable Select" pulldown in the Capture Plan Centre.  This will instruct BackyardNIKON to use the DSUSB cable for BULB.

I know about the cable select of course with all the issues I've had.  After talking in the shoestring support group I have sent the DSUB in for a check.  It's probably the DSUB now.  Especially since I was able to connect using two laptops but bulb would not work.  I mailed the DSUB a few days ago so I'll see what he determines about it.  Like you said before it was a software issue about connection.  For some reason that is resolved now.  Nikon also resolved the Camera Control Pro2 connection issue.  So right now I have two programs that will connect and fire up to 30 seconds.  Hopefully the DSUB is at fault and will be repaired.  Otherwise I've got another software issue with two laptops.
