Losing my driver while in EOS and EOS utility

MikeYRC54

Question

Hi Everyone again,

I have a question regarding my operating system.I am still having the problem of it losing the driver  while in eos and the camera's software during live view or even in taking remote pictures. In eos during sampling to download frames it freezes up and says busy.it does the same while in Canon's software.Thinking it was a space problem also.Has anyone had problems with Vista doing this,..Would it be different if I changed to Windows 7 or 8?..How would it be losing the driver all the time.I have checked all usb positions and checked the camera output connection for loseness and found it all ok.I am going to buy another cable to see if it does the same as the last resort to changing to another operating system.I know this hasn't anything to do with the software.Just wandering if anyone had this problem with vista running this software and loses the driver as it comes back and asks for it again....also what does eos run best on.....Thanks...Mike

Hi Guylain,

My cable is the one that came with my Camera.Going to get another one.If it does the same . Probably going to go with getting another laptop with better USB and more processing power. This one states it has the enhanced USB ports, but it sometimes tells me that I could have better speed if I used one of its ports, funny I have tried all with the same problem of it losing connection somewhere while using EOS or the Canon utility to control the camera. Will let you know the out come..Does your EOS work better on a 64 bit system and a certain operating system?...Thanks..mike

Hi Mike,

BackyardEOS runs on 32 bits / 64 bits just the same.

If by "enhanced USB ports", you mean USB3 Ports...

1) Both ends of a USB Connection work at only the lower common speed/standard - so as Camera / Guider is only USB2 then the whole USB Bus will operate at only USB2 (even slower if device is older USB1.1)

2) Current USB3 Ports are still having problems with USB2-Compatibility - you need to ensure that you have USB2 Ports on your Laptop if you have USB2 Cameras

As Guylain is trying to advise you - almost all USB problems are Cable Problems.

This could mean too long cables...  Or, in your case, the possibility that the physical ports/ contacts are becoming worn / loose.  The cure for this is usually to find a high quality moderate length USB2 Cable - such cables usually have the better / tighter connectors which solve many of the connection problems.
