Unable to slew Orion Atlas Pro via ASCOM control

bkorcel

Question

Anyone having issues slewing an Orion Atlas Pro mount using ASCOM and BYEOS?  I attempted this a couple of weeks ago and it generated an error (wish I had saved it) something about the slew method was not supported.  The Orion mount is based on the Celestron protocol and is what I have been using with other applications.

In this instance I had to use another method to slew the scope but would very much like to have BYEOS do everything to avoid driver contention with other apps.

BYE does not slew a telescope/mount. Slewing involves sending a mount to a specific RA/Dec or Alt/Az. BYE does not do this. For lack of a better term, BYE can nudge a scope. That is move it a short distance at a relatively slow speed for a user-specified duration (while the move button is depressed). This is all that is necessary for framing a target. This is all that BYE does.

If you are using EQMOD to control the mount then you should be able to connect multiple applications to the mount concurrently and as long as you do not ask more than one app at a time to move the mount then there should be no contention issues.

That said, there is an unresolved issue where a recent Windows 10 update from Microsoft (the January rollup) contains a "fix" for the Meltdown vulnerability. This "fix" broke ASCOM and other applications (The Sky X) that use DCOM. The ASCOM-Talk Yahoo! group contains a long message thread about the issue, along with a possible workaround.

I hope this helps.
