Connection Issue - Latest Edition

joeursa

Question

I was able to connect this morning, but cannot connect tonight. The Canon software recognizes the camera, but not BYEOS. I've tried restarting and downloading latest Windows updates and I do have the latest BYEOS. Would reinstallation help? I'm using a Canon T3i.

Thanks.

Saying that you have "the latest" is vague, especially for someone reading your post a year or two from now. Please tell us the exact BYE version number.

Make sure that your cabling is fully inserted at both ends. Which Canon software? The EOS Utility?

In BYE, which Canon "driver" are you selecting when you attempt to connect? Try Canon215.

Both BYE and the EOS Utility use the Canon SDK for low-level connection and control. If one works then the other will almost always work.

Thanks.

If EOS Utility connects and BYE does not it can only be 2 things.  (1) EOS Utility is still running, or (2) you are not selecting the correct Canon drivers in BYE, try the other options.

As mentioned above, please specify your full version number.

Happy New Year.

Thanks, I do tend to be vague at times and understand the frustration of someone looking at this a year or two from now. It's Version 3.1.16.  The Canon utility is "EOS Utility 2" which I downloaded from the Canon website in early 2017.  A further note which others may find helpful is that upon re-installation, I now have a second BYE icon on my desktop, except this one also says "BYE v3.1 (camera 2)" below the icon. This is the icon that launches BYE that will connect to my camera. When I select the The original icon with the standard title "BYE v3.1" it will launch BYE, but it will not recognize my camera. So I have it working. I'm a Mac person (the single most frustrating thing for an astrophotographer I think) , so I'll take my PC into work and ask one of the IT folks how to get rid of the original icon that no longer seems to be working.
