Question

Hello everyone!

I've been trough the forum on my error that I am getting all the suggestions in previous post I tried!

I have a Rebel XT 35oD, all drivers installed for the camera,I have a cf card in it

When I put my camera to PC CONNECTION I can't connect to BYEOS,but if i put it to ftp/print I connect to BYEOS,

but with my dial set to M(bulb) in the camera status in the program, i see only the white balance flower icon and battery status.

I try a test capture 2 sec iso 800 nothing happens and I get

ERROR EDS_ERR_NOT_SUPPORTED : EDSDK.EdsSetPropertyData(cameraRef, SaveTo(11), 0, size(4), 2)

I downgraded my old pc to windows xp to home edition 32 bit

It needs to be set to PC Connection.  If it connects with PTP it's an illusion that the connection seems okay as the SDK will not allow any commands to interact with the camera other than to download images in PTP mode when using the Canon SDK, which is what BYE uses to communicate with the camera..

Set it to PC connection and go from there.

With the 350d you need a 32 bits Windows, not 64 bits.  Please confirm this or it will never work.  It's not clear in your message that you are running Windows 32 bits as this is the last thing you mentioned in your post.  Not sure if this is something you did after the fact.

You are using the Canon210 drivers, this is the correct selection for the 350D.  This is good.

Which version of BYE are you using?

You need to ensure that the Canon low-level driver is installed. This can be done either by installing the software from the CD that came with the camera or by downloading it from the Canon product page for your camera.

You can verify that the driver is correctly installed by looking for the camera in the Windows Device Manager once you have plugged the camera into the PC and turned it on, and installed the driver.

BTW, the correct setting for BYE is the PC connection setting not the ftp/print setting.

If you do not see your camera listed in the Windows Device manager and need to download the low-level driver from Canon, you may need to install the Canon EOS Utility to have the driver installed. One advantage of this is that you can test your connection with the EOS Utility. If the EOS Utility does not connect then neither will BYE. This means that your issue is with the low-level Canon software, Windows, or a bad cable.

One other thing is that the EOS Utility and BYE cannot both be connected at the same time. So if you are able to connect the EOS Utility with your 350D then you must disconnect it before attempting to connect BYE with the camera.

wow thanks for the fast input!

indeed the  drivers are there,

driver: File version: 5.6.0

File Size: 5 MB

File name: K5411enx.exe

2- i do see my camera in the control panel.(also able to fetch the pictures off the card,)

i also changed the connection from (ftp/prit) to PC connection, once that is done camera is not able to connect toBYEOS

Also for the record , i have always been successfull with BYEOS with my more  recent camera T1i.

OK, so what did you change to get connected?

The message about needing a DSUSB cable for BULB exposures is true. This is confirmed by the BYE Camera Support Grid. However, once connected you should be able to take Tv exposures with only the regular USB cable. You only need the additional cable for BULB exposures. The BYE User Guide explains how to configure BYE to use the serial cable.

You asked Guylain, but permit me to answer.

No, it is a special cable that plugs between a USB port on the PC and the remote shutter jack on the camera. Look on the BYE Camera Support Grid page and follow the link above the grid to the Shoestring Astronomy web site or the Hap Griffin web site to find the cable that you need.

BTW, this DSUSB cable is used in parallel to the regular USB cable. For full functionality with your 350D you must have 2 cables running from the camera to the PC. One plugs into the USB port and the other plugs into the remote shutter jack.

Thanks Guylain   And Astroman!!

ill have to say it again! This community  is by far my favorite, and the Person and People that made this software  possible.. never once had a issue with it.... not once! Small camera glitches are anwsered  by reading the  already  resolved posts on this forum! Yes  my partner had a ZWO1600mm but ,  softwares to capture are unstable if you ask me! Anyway going back to my roots, using my 350D but will go forward with a T2I in the near future!    DOES SOMEBODY ON THIS FORUM SELL THE DSUSB CABLES HERE..

HUMMMM maybe i have everything that is needed to do one!!!!

The DSUSB cable from Shoestring Astronomy is one of my favorite one, it just works.  No messing around with com ports.  The only downside is that black box is on the larger sides of things; I wish it was smaller.  But for consistency and reliability the DSUSB cable is hard to beat IMO.  You need to purchase directly for Shoestring.
