AstroTortilla failed to connect to BackyardEOS Classic 3.1.16

Question

Hi,

I am new to BackyardEOS and Astrotortilla (running v0.7 on an XP laptop) and am getting this error, in Astrotortilla when trying to capture an image and plate solve it. :-

"Camera error:-Failed to connect to Backyard EOS"

BackyardEOS is working fine with my Canon350D camera, it takes images and downloads them and all seems to be good.

Could some one please explain what I have to do, to get Astrotortilla to talk to BackyardEOS, please.

Thanks

nigelh

There is a post in the How To's  forum that describes how to use AT and BYE/BYN for plate solving. Click on the image below to browse the post. I believe that you need the Premium version of BYE license for BYE to activate the integration with AT. This can be seen on the Compare Editions tab on the Backyard EOS product page in the Store.

Just to advise that Astrotortilla & BackyardEOS are now talking properly to each other, after I got Avast out of the mix!

Goodness knows why this antivirus software stops programmes communicating with each other but I suppose there is a logical reason.

Problem now solved - thanks.

Almost ALL of the modern generation of "Anti-Virus" Suites also contain a Firewall component of some sort.  That Firewall - actually simply one of the default "Rules" - is what interferes with the communication between AT and BYE.

I'd bet that you could look to add a Firewall Rule (needs a quick reading of portions of the AVAST manual) to allow "TCP/1499", and then restore AVAST to service.

After all, there are valid reasons for both Anti-Virus and Firewall Software...

Thanks Rick - I'll have a read and see what I can set up.

To be honest though, my astronomy laptop, running windows xp, doesn't need to be connected to the internet (apart from when I'm installing a new program) so if I cannot get a new firewall rule set up,  I'll disable the wireless network connection and turn off Avast, at least when I'm plate solving!

Thanks for your help
