Connection Cable

Lostone

Question

This may not be the proper place to ask, but i'm asking anyway.

I just picked up a Celestron VX mount.  What cable do I need to connect the mount to my laptop.  Laptop does not have a Serial / RS232 port, Only usb and standard RJ45 Network ports.

I wan't to use the other available controls with this mount.

Thanks

I believe this is if the mount is less than a year old. I believe they changed the connector around the first of 2017.

I just bought a new CGX mount (haven't had first light yet) and it had the new hand controller.

The AVX should have come with a white cable that plugs into the base of the hand controller. The other end of that white cable has a  9-pin D connector. You need a USB-to-serial adapter to connect between that white cable and a USB port on the laptop.

Here is a link to such an adapter --> https://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/controller/home?A=details&O=&Q=&ap=y&c3api=1876%2C{creative}%2C{keyword}&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIoc3BhO6u1QIVBpRpCh3_ogyNEAQYASABEgINDPD_BwE&is=REG&sku=1016900

The link is not intended as an endorsement of the vendor or the manufacturer of the cable, just that you need a cable like this one. I would also say not to buy the cheapest cable that you can find. Often a more expensive cable will work more reliably and last longer.

Apologies to Guylain if he sells these cables. I looked in his store but could not find a similar product.
