How can I enter my license key to use BackyardEOS?

usergwhit

Question

I bought BackyardEOS before you bought it.   I am not able to use it because you are blocking access to my installation of my license key by require a registered name for your site that didn't happen until years later.   I have my license key, but no way to activate since it is not tied to your company...it is tied to the original write of BackyardEOS.

It would be good if a human being from your company would contact me in order for you to fulfill your obligations!   Yes, I am irritated...I expect a professional behavior from your company, but maybe that is too much to ask!

Hi George,

Please be courteous when asking for help.  Free upgrade is not a right, it is a privilege!

Please follow the upgrade instructions here.

https://www.otelescope.com/store/category/2-backyardeos/

Scroll down and select the upgrade tab.  Then, depending you your current version, select the appropriate upgrade path.

Regards.

George,

The original authors of BackyardEOS still own and support it. They changed how they license BYE to provide a solution to the problem of users losing their licenses and requesting a new copy. Apparently your license is one of the older licenses. You can follow the upgrade instructions to get a free, new license. The new licenses are now maintained on the O'Telescope servers. You can access it with your username and password to validate your copy of the software.

You said:  I bought BackyardEOS before you bought it.

What does that even mean?  I did not buy anything, you did.  O'Telescope is the company name and BackyardEOS is the product name.  I'm the original owner and creator of BackyardEOS.

I''m not blocking anything, all the information you need is here on the web site.  See links from posts above!

Follow the published upgrade instruction as per link in above reply, no need to be condescending because you did not see the instructions on your own.

What obligations?  You requested a trial over 2 years ago and you were given a download link and a license key then.  FREE UPGRADE IS NOT A RIGHT, IT IS A PRIVILEGE.  I have no obligation towards you.

I EXPECT PROFESSIONAL BEHAVIOR TOO, this is a 2-way street and your first and only communication asking for help is this thread.  I find it difficult to believe that you are asking for professional behavior when you demonstrated lack of professional behavior yourself.

Thanks for the link to the upgrade path Guylain.  I am grateful that there is a free upgrade to 3.1.  I love BYEOS and many tools make you pay for upgrades, so I am always happy to get a free upgrade.  You've put a lot of hard work into this product.  If at some point you have to charge for upgrades, that will be fine too, because we want you to be able to stay in business. :)  Thanks again.

Hi Karen,

Thank you, but you did not fully upgrade to 3.1.  All I see under your account is a trial request made last Saturday.

You need to add BYE premium edition in your cart and use your BYE 3.0 key as your coupon code.  The first line of that 3.0 key is your free upgrade coupon for 3.1.

Hope this makes sense.

I have done so, but I would still like to be able to activate and use the BackyardEOS that I paid for!

You can still do this.  Just install the same version you downloaded back then and use the same key.  Upgrades a free but they are by no means necessary.  You are free to use and continue to use your current key with the version you downloaded back then forever.

As it turns out the OP has never purchased BackyardEOS.  He requested a trial key January 20th 2015 and was under the impression he had purchased it.

After several emails he finally sent me his key and I was able to confirm it was indeed a trial key and then he sent me this message.  I'm sharing it here to close the loop on this thread.

Guylain,

I stand very embarrassed and apologetic.  It has been several years and my records did not show that it was a trial license.   I can only plead age and senility as a defense.  My sincere apologies for the trouble that I have caused.   I shall correct the problem and purchase a full license.

This was an honest mistake.

Regards.
