BYE Bug Report MLU

lodrigj

Question

Using BYE3.1.11 in Windows 10 Enterprise version 1607 build 14393.1358 64bit

BYE locks up hard, requiring Task Manager to end the task if MLU is programed.

The exposure series completes successfully but after the last exposure, the mirror stays locked up and BYE crashes hard.

Exposures were all 1/1000th second with no pause between frames.

MLU set to 1.

4 exposures, each on their own line.

Same crash with two different cameras.

Same crash if you put all 4 exposures on one line.

Same crash if you use an MLU of 4 seconds.

Even stranger behavior if you program in 5 second pause for each frame in addition to 5 second MLU...

Same crash if you also program in a 5 second pause between frames.

This is with the Canon215 driver for both the 700D and 600D.

Minimum MLU is 3 seconds even if it is set to 1 or 2.

This must be intentional programing of BYE because MLU of 1 or 2 results in an MLU of 1 second and 2 seconds respectively in Astro Photography Tool (APT).

Also, the crashes using MLU in BYE must be a bug because MLU works fine in APT with no crashes or lockup with exactly the same camera, USB cable and laptop.

Interestingly, in Solar Eclipse Maestro on a Mac, you can even program in a 1/2 second MLU and it works.

Testing all of this for the eclipse.

Hi Jerry,

I'm trying to figure out the bug with MLU crashing the application right now.  It's not an easy bug to fix but I can replicate it so this helps a lot.

As per my previous emails I will not be able to address the delay required for MLU or anything in between exposures but I should be able to fix the MLU causing the crash once I figure out the root cause.

Regards,

I was only able to replicate Jerry's issue when saving to the camera. I saw the same behavior with 3.1.9 and 3.1.11 and with Canon and Canon215 SDKs. I also noticed that once BYE locked up that the mirror stayed up for several seconds after the last exposure.

There also seems to be an issue with how Pauses occur. Pauses and Mirror lock appear to happen concurrently rather than consecutively. It seems that the Pause starts when the mirror flips up, not after the exposure is complete.

I also do see that the anti-vibration time is longer than a second when set to 1.

Yes, same behavior here too.  The minimum MLU is 2 seconds so even if you set it to 1 BYE will use a 2 second MLU.  This is because so model are slower to trigger the mirror up and this cause issues, hence the minimum 2 seconds.

Working on the freeze now.
